Ida Elizabeth Barnes Dyer, age 95 of Austin, went home to our Lord on November 21, 2003. Ida was born on May 24, 1908 in Hutto, Texas to William Edgar Barnes and Ida McElroy Barnes. After graduating from Hutto High School, Ida moved to Austin. She worked in several retail stores over the years like McClellans, Woolworths and Scarbroughs. Then she met and married Walter C Dyer. They were happily married and raised two sons. Walter passed away in 1974. Ida worked at the Texas Employment Commission for a number of years until she left on disability retirement. Ida was a loving person to her family and friends. However, she could be feisty to get her point across. She always had a sense of humor even though sometimes you couldnt tell if she was teasing you or not. Ida loved sports and was an avid Longhorn fan. In her 95th year she was still using the hookem horns sign. Except for the last few years, Ida had been active in Grace United Methodist Church (GUMC) . She loved sharing time with the Quilters and the GUMC Womens Group. Some of her most cherished friendships involved these groups and other church members. Left behind to follow her example are her two sons, Wallace E Dyer and wife Valjean Bryson Dyer, David L Dyer and wife Mary Russek Dyer; granddaughters, DAnn Dyer, Denise Beecroft and husband Mike Beecroft; great-grandchildren, Bryson, Katy and Charlie Beecroft; and sister Mildred Jernigan. She is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces. Ida is preceded in death by her husband, Walter; brothers, Guy and Milton Barnes; sisters Myrtle Blacklock and Birdie Croslin. Our special thanks go to Barton Hills Assisted Living for her daily care for the last few years and to Lone Star Hospice for their assistance in the last month. In lieu of flowers please send contributions the Grace United Methodist Church, 205 East Monroe, Austin, TX 78704. The family will receive friends from 6:00 8:00 PM on Sunday, November 23 at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, November 24, 2003 at Wilke-Clay-Fish at 2620 South Congress, Austin 442-1446.
