
Irene Shearer Colvin, 89, from Louisville, Kentucky, died June 27, 2009, in Austin, TX. Daughter of a Baptist minister, she was born to Walker and Eva Shearer in Stamping Ground, KY on July 22, 1919, and was raised in Lexington, KY. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Reverend A. B. Colvin, her parents, three sisters and two brothers. She was a loving Baptist pastor's wife, active in church and community activities. She served as director of the preschool program at Southern Baptist Seminary. She also was President of the Kentucky Association for Children Under Six. She volunteered 6, 000 hours at Baptist Hospital East from its opening until 2003, and was the president of the hospital auxiliary from 1990 - 1992. She taught English as a second language, was a gifted seamstress, pianist, and hostess. She was a role model for all those with whom she came in contact, and loved by many. She is survived by two daughters, Cassandra (Max) Carr, Austin, and Cynthia (Richard) Weller, Louisville; two grandchildren, Rick Weller, Austin, Anne (Mark) Waggoner, Austin; and two great-grandchildren, Claire Irene and Trevor Andrew Waggoner. Visitation will be 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, at Pearson-Ratterman Funeral Home, in Louisville. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, at St. Matthews Baptist Church in Louisville. Memorial gifts may be sent to the A.
