

J. Howard Hayden passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness, on Thursday December 22nd, at the Heart Hospital of Austin, with family by his side. Howard was born on June 28th, 1930 in Dallas, Texas to Julian Howard and Virginia Hayden. They both preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by a niece Linda Hayden. Raised in Dallas, Howard attended Highland Park High School and later received his bachelor degree in Business Administration from the University of Texas and his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from the University Of Texas School Of Law. Howard spent more than 35 years dedicated to the practice of tax and estate planning and probate law in Austin. Howard served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. Howard was a member of the Austin Country Club, the Headliners Club and the Texas State Bar Association. Hayden is survived by his wife of 22 years, Jere Hayden; his son, Hal and wife Cathie of Prescott, AZ; his daughter, Ann Hayden; his step-son, Kyle Holmes and wife Julie of Bedford, TX; his step-daughter, Tere Holmes of Austin; one brother, Buddy Hayden and wife Kathryn of Dallas; and two grandchildren, Megan and Andrew Holmes. Other family members include his nieces, Nancy Hayden and Kathryn Hayden and a step-sister, Chloe Bailey. Howard has been a long time resident of Austin, a man of many words, Howard will be missed by all who knew him. Howard was a giving man who loved his family, enjoyed traveling, golf, bridge, reading and spending time engaged in conversations with friends and strangers alike. We know Howard is at peace after his lengthy illness. Rest well, Papa. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 28, 2005 in the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 3201 Windsor Road, Austin, Texas with the Reverend G.
