

Ja’Corey Fransuia Chukwuemeka Odu “Old Lyfe” was born June 19,1989, to Betty and Francis Odu. He attended Austin and Del Valle Schools. He was a member of Solid Rock Church of Jesus Christ From God under the leadership of Apostle Norris R. Thomas, Jr. who preceded him in death. He continued his membership at Greater Solid Christian Fellowship under the leadership of Apostle Dennis Williams, Sr. and Assistant Pastor Herman Jones, until his death.Ja’Corey was a father, artist, producer, and community organizer who constantly and tirelessly gave his time, energy, resources, and heart to the community. He will always be remembered for his generous and constant efforts to respond to those in urgent need. During Hurricane Harvey, he led efforts to rescue those who had been stranded without electricity and drinkable water in Beaumont, Port Arthur, and East Houston; bringing them to Austin on buses providing shelter, support, food and other resources. On weekends, Ja’Corey could often be found distributing food and supplies to Austin’s homeless community. During the Winter Storm of 2021, he also helped identify households in need of urgent supplies and helped run food to families stranded in the storm. When faced with those in need, Ja’Corey always showed up, regardless of what he had to offer, he always found something to give.He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Joseph Mouton; his paternal grandfather, Lawrence Odu; and godfather, Daniel Peeples.He leaves to honor his memory, his four children: Kaidence Odu, Kingsley Odu, Kanaan Odu and Kylee Mitchell; his parents, Betty Hamilton-Boyd (Edward), Francis Odu (Tina) all of Austin; his maternal grandmother, Betty Jackson of San Antonio; his paternal grandmother, Philomina Odu of Nigeria; his partner of many years, Camille Mitchell; four sisters: Sharniquia Hamilton, Judath Odu, Jessica Odu and Jaylan Odu; one brother, Jordan Frank Odu all of Austin; his extended brothers and sisters; his niece, Jaida Cleveland; his nephew, Bryson Duncan; godparents, Carla Pleasant of Houston, Joyce Johnson of Austin, and Domonic Cotton of Austin; three godbrothers: St. Micholos Street, Deonte Thomas and Dominque King; five godsisters: Tanisha Street, Kionna Harvard, Naomi Walter, Nevaeh Howard, Billi Rucker; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, family, friends and loved ones.
