Happy Birthday Jack, can’t believe you would’ve been 17. Rest well firefly

It’s hard… Having a first love that passed. We were reliant on each other, each others happiness. Our sorrows, our successes, our loved ones, our dreams. Everything was together. I still see him in other peoples features. His chocolate brown eyes that always looked at me like I was the only one for him, his thick hair, his smile, gosh I loved his smile. I wish things went differently. I visited the last place I saw him today. A little field, at the time it was freezing cold but now there’s pink and purple flowers that scatter around the pond. The ducks were splashing around and there were turtles that occasionally popped their heads up. It was hard to accept that I could be with someone else after Jack. But I know he would want me to be happy, he always wanted me to be happy. I wish I got to meet his mom, sister, brother, best friends, family friends, anyone and everyone that loved him. I wish I got the chance to go to his funeral or burial but I didn’t find out about the tragedy until after. A piece of me will always love Jack Baggett, the first love kind of love, the one that always stays with you. But a piece of me will always remember the most painful moment in my life when I read that text and screamed. The moments I had with him will forever be engraved into my mind. My firefly, always lighting up the sky.

Jack was an amazing guy who was a friend to everyone. He was so easy to have a conversation with and he would always make me laugh regardless of the situation. I remember in many classes we had together when we would be sat next to each other we would often get in trouble because we couldn’t stop talking and cracking jokes to each other. I think of Jack everyday and i miss life with him. Such random things remind me of him in day-to-day life like songs from vines that he would quote and the way some people laugh. Jack you are so missed and loved. Will, Sarah, and Ms. Baggett my prayers are with y’all everyday, thank y’all for sharing jack with us.

Continuing to remember you, Jack.  Your precious life continues to live on in all of our hearts.

I continue to pray God’s healing and comfort over you. I lift you up in prayer every time I think of you, which is still so often. We are all still with you. 

I know this is my third time writing on here, but there is so much still to stay. Everyday there is a reminder of him, every person. Whether it's how they look, how they talk. When I knew Jack I observed every look, movements, the glint in his eyes. He was the person I trusted most, the one who knew all my secrets. My pains, my happiness; in return I knew his. I whole heartedly loved that boy. In the little amount of time I knew him I watched him go through a whirlwind of emotions good and bad. There were many good memories, many things that I will cherish. Some of those memories will forever be engraved into my mind. The first time I met him we were both so awkward. We knew each other online first, such a coincidence. But when our eyes met we both lit up. He was one of the most fascinating, enticing, and pure people I know. My definition of pure... Someone who shows who they are, they don't hide nor pretend. He was the first person that showed me pure love, no lies, no secrets. I still hold the necklace that he helped craft. In chemistry he made this crystal out of an experiment they were doing. It's a sort of opaque light blue. Beautiful. I wire wrapped it into a necklace. A necklace that I never took off, I wore it for months upon months until I knew I would never even begin to heal with the necklace holding me back. I still have it right next to my bed and I fall asleep every night looking at it. It represents one of the darkest and happiest times in my life. Jack. He saved me. Him doing what he did, something that very few people in my life know about. That was and probably will be the most pain I have ever felt. My first love. But he helped me begin to climb out of the sinkhole that I was constantly slipping in. I hope that he is resting, I hope that he is in the clouds, in blissfulness like he talked about. He loved astronauts. He loved the thought of just being in peace feeling like you're floating. That's what my firefly deserves.  

Happy Birthday firefly.. You would’ve been 16, but time seem to have stopped that from happening. There’s never a day that you aren’t on my mind. The process of healing, gruesome, and there’s a lot of guilt. A lot of guilt that I shouldn’t have been able to move on ever. Because when your heart stopped, as did mine. I could go on and on with stories even though I only knew him for a short amount of time. But I know the main things that stuck out to me about him. He was a compromiser, the few arguments we had would not last long; like me he wanted to talk things through and I’ll forever be thankful for that. He was a goofball, I cannot count how many times he made a joke or a funny face or did something to brighten up the world. He embraced everything that was put in his path, whether it be hardships, successes, happiness, and the people around him. He embraced me in a way that I don’t know if I’ll ever witness it again. He had a way with words, he said what was on his mind and in return I got to see who he was as a person. I will forever remember Jack, the person who picked me off my feet when I was going through what I thought was the darkest point in my life. I will always love him, and I will always remember him like I saw him yesterday. My firefly will never leave the sky. 

It’s been over 2 months since Jack passed. Everyday I see little parts of him in other people, his eyes, his smile, something he once said. But no one will ever measure up to him. He’s constantly on my mind, and I feel as if he’ll never leave. I don’t want him to leave no matter how much it pains me, our memories will always be my favorite. I miss you Jack Baggett, my firefly always and forever.

Jack Baggett: such a sweet and heart-winning kid.  Will and Sarah, I have been keeping both of you, and Jack, in my heart these past few weeks. I think of you often. ❤️ 

Ken and I remember that sweet and funny Jack Baggett. On occasion,  we had the pleasure of driving him home from school, along with Will, Sarah, and the all the Patel girls. I remember all the school stories and the laughter of friends enjoying one another in a crowded vehicle. He and Ken were good buddies and had conversations of their own, even though we only saw him once in a while.  He had a way of making us feel younger— like we were part of the “clan” and not just his friends’ grandparents.  
Jack Baggett. Just thinking of him makes me smile. He was a joy! 

Thank you all so much for posting these memories of Jack, some of which I had not even heard before.   It's helped me to keep checking back and read what you all wrote. They mean more than you can know.  God bless you.

Thank you so much for all the joy, the wonders, and the many adventures we got to share with each other. I’m so glad that I got to know you, and I’m super grateful that I got to be your friend. You were one of the funniest people I’ve ever met. You would always try to put a smile on our faces, and comfort us in dark times, and I will never forget that. Thank you for taking care of us, and trying to make us happy.  Our last memory together was such a sweet one… It was on a Friday afternoon, we were going over to the 9 Square Court, and you hugged me and told me “I love you, David”;  I remember I  hugged you back and told you “I love you too”.  It’s memories like these that I will always cherish. I love you Jack. Rest In Peace, dear friend. My heart and prayers go out to the Baggett family.

I remember the first time I met Jack was at a theatre Christmas party. I thought it was funny to see a smaller version of Will! For the next couple of years until I graduated, I had the joy of being in the same house as him, and it was always a great time putting on house events with him. His smile was so bright, and he had such a wonderful, funny personality. My friends and I even had a nickname for him (Jacket Bags!). It’s heartbreaking knowing I won’t get to see him when I visit Founders, or wave at him when I see him walking home from school, but I know he’s in the arms of our Father now, rejoicing with all the saints in a place where there’s no more pain. Rest easy, Jack.

Jack was like a brother to me. Ben brought him into Bible study one day in the beginning of 2021  and immediately everyone loved him. He was charismatic, outgoing and passionate, we were both into some of the same things, and he became a good friend to me. Bible study was held outside on the driveway, and I have fond memories of sitting outside in our camping chairs and eating dinner next to each other as we talked about various things. We would eat, share about the hard parts of our lives and pray together all huddled together as brothers of Christ. I am ever so grateful I was able to do that with Jack at my side. Me and him were the Jack’s of the group and I’m very happy to have shared the name of such a man like him. I remember he was such a hard working guy, putting 40-50 hours a week in the summer working as a life guard to get enough money for his dream PC. I looked up to him for that, he really inspired me. I would look forward to seeing Jack at Mr. Crow’s house every Wednesday night, he became a solid part of the group, and it aches me that he will not be returning in body. 

I’ll never forget you man, I loved you 

It is with deep sympathy and a heavy heart that I must convey my condolences to the Baggett family. I will always remember Jack’s smile and wit. He was a fine young man and know he will be missed by all. 

Jack and I have know each other a long, long time, but one of my favorite memories was when in second grade he gave me a ring he found that had the largest plastic diamond on it and he said he wished it could have been bigger. This turned out to be foreshadowing to freshman year when he said if we’re both single when we’re thirty, do you want to get married? I’ve always cherished Jack as someone I could talk to about anything, and my heart goes out to the Baggett family. I love you so much Jack.

Jack had an effervescent smile that was so sincere and full of hope and promise.  When I was Jack's teacher and house mentor, I remember that anytime I asked him for assistance with something,  he would run up to me without any hesitation with a smile on his face and a look of eagerness for the great adventure that was to come:)  When he completed the task, he would ask if there was anything else he could do to help.  Jack was so ebullient, you wished to give him something else to do just so you could watch the joy on his face.  I noticed over the years that he acted this way consistently whenever there was any call for assistance. I admired him for his joyful spirit and happy heart.  He seemed undeterred, like he could not have willed himself to be any other way.  Everyone needs a person like Jack in his or her life to teach us that we can have joy in the midst of difficulties, because Jack did.  I'm glad that the Lord brought him into my life.  I'm sorry that he is gone from us, but I look forward to being friends with him again in heaven.

Dear Jack! I loved having him in children's choir, always on the front row with a grin and those big brown eyes. Such a dolly. Our prayers are with you. 

Jack was fiercely loved and cherished by our family.  He was the best friend anyone could ask for.  He brought sunshine, laughter, and shenanigans to our house and hearts, and we will remember him for the rest of our lives.  We are forever changed for the better and blessed by the 7 years of friendship Jack gave our Jack.

What can I say about our sweet Jack!! He has been a precious friend to my Graceson for many years! Jack, Jack, and Grae were often called the 3 Musketeers!  We have so many memories of them at our house rough housing or having a nerf war.   After we moved away these boys still stayed close and spent birthdays and summers catching up! Graceson said when they are together it's like they had never been apart! Jack Baggett lived life with such joy and a precious heart!  He loved his friends with all his heart and I will miss that contagious smile of his!!! Thank you Pam for sharing your precious son with us!!! He will forever live on in our hearts! 

I will always remember Jack as a not only a friend but a brother and all of the fond memories we shared. Some of those memories include birthdays at Austin park and pizza. He always had a way to make people smile. I love you buddy and I will miss you deeply.

The Villanueva family will always remember Jack as a sweet, polite young man. He was a good friend of our son Ben, they knew each other since the third grade. They had a wonderful group of friends, they would  get together for birthday’s, Halloween,  or just to hangout at our house. He had a kind spirit and a beautiful smile. He would always forget something at our house, wallet, jacket, hat! We will never forget you Jack! We love you!

I fondly remember Jack from our FCA Science Club!! He loved building things and experimenting and was one of the most curious kids I’ve ever known. Popsicle stick bridges and paper folder circuits were his faves! It was so terrific seeing his face light up when he could roll up his sleeves after a day of seat learning. Jack, you were loved beyond measure and will be sorely missed. Rest peacefully in the arms of our Father until we all see you again. 💕 Josie Parent
