

James Regan Connor died at home on July 6, 2006 after a long illness. He was born December 7, 1922 in Monroe, LA to Edgar F. Connor and Roma Regan Connor. He grew up in Abilene, TX. Upon graduation from Abilene High School he entered the University of Texas, where he was a member of the Cowboys and Delta Kappa Epsilon. Upon outbreak of World War II, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Commissioned as an Ensign, and then served on the USS Hancock, an aircraft carrier in Admiral Halseys Fast Carrier Task Force. He participated in action in the Philippines, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Okinawa, Iwo Jima and Japanese Islands. He was decorated with a bronze star and earned seven battle stars as a Lt. (j.g.). Upon returning he re-entered the University of Texas as where he earned a degree in accounting and law. He entered private practice in Houston, later joining the Shell Oil Co., where he spent 31 yrs. He is survived by his loving wife Judy and his four children, Tom Connor, Ted Connor, Carolyn Wiley and Abigail Klamert, seven grandchildren and seven step-grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers are Bill Abington, Gary Dillard, Dave Sebree, Murray Williams, Woodrow Odom and surviving members of the Navy Fighters Squadron Seven and members of the Wedding Ring Class of First United Methodist Church of Austin. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Austin on Friday July 14, 2006 at 2:30. John McMullen officiating.
