James Ronald Whited Sr., 74, of Leander, Texas, was peacefully called home to the Lord on April 27, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with liver disease spanning more than 20 years. True to his character, James faced his illness with strength, determination, and quiet resilience—never complaining, and always continuing to care for others.
James was born on February 19, 1952, in Austin, Texas, to Thomas and Rosie Whited. He married the love of his life, Marsha Whited, on June 1, 1974. Together, they shared a beautiful life and celebrated 50 years of marriage, renewing their vows on their golden anniversary in 2024. James and Marsha met at a young age, and he loved her deeply every day of his life. Her passing in January 2025 left a profound void in his heart. His family finds comfort in knowing they are reunited and that he is now at peace.
James graduated from Crockett High School and went on to build a successful career as a masonry contractor, owning and operating JW Masonry for over 40 years. His craftsmanship can be seen throughout the Austin area—from homes and churches to mailboxes, retaining walls, and driveways. He turned hard work into something beautiful and his work stands as a lasting legacy of his dedication and pride.
James never met a stranger. He had a gift for conversation and made everyone feel welcome and valued. Known for his kindness and generosity, he cared deeply for his family, friends, and anyone in need. His greatest accomplishment was his family. He raised four children—James Jr., Chris, Christie, and Brad—and also helped raise his nephew, Paul, from the age of twelve, loving him as his own.
James and Marsha shared a love of travel and enjoyed many road trips across the United States. When he wasn’t traveling, he could often be found fishing, hunting, playing bingo, or visiting game rooms. At home, he enjoyed watching old Western movies with his beloved dogs, Molly and Minnie, close by. Above all, he cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren and especially looked forward to the family’s annual summer trips to Port Aransas.
James will be remembered for his warm smile, quick wit, and sense of humor. He had a way of making others laugh and feel at ease. He will also be remembered for his strong work ethic, which he instilled in his children. Most importantly, he will be remembered for the deep love he had for his family and the compassion he showed to everyone he met.
He is survived by his son James Whited and wife Tammy, along with their children Jillian, Grayson, Kaylee, and Lily; his daughter Christie Schuessler and husband Dennis, along with their children Ethan and wife Nicole, Madison, and Marissa; and his son Bradley Whited, fiancée Faith, and children Eleanor and Penelope, with another grandchild on the way, as well as grandson Jace.
Additional survivors include his sisters Carolyn and Darlene, and his brothers Gary and David.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Marsha, and his son Chris.
Services will be held at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Memorial Park in Oak Hill.
