Janice Young Herring was born on July 5, 1938, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, to Harvey Oscar Walbert and Mae Leah Albright Walbert. She passed away peacefully on November 29, 2025, in the loving care of the nurses and staff at SPJST Senior Living of Taylor, Tx.
Janice was a Girl Scout in her early years and later proudly served in the United States Air Force. It was there that she met W. Gene Herring (Greatest Dad Ever). They were married in January of 1967, joining their two families, creating a lively and loving home which included eight children Diana Lynn, Jimmy Herring, T.J. King, Melody Herring, Robert (Bobby) King, Debi Herring, Melinda King and Barbara Herring.
Janice loved celebrations, hosting countless holiday gatherings and happily attending birthdays, baby showers and baptisms for family and friends alike. She learned the art of wallpaper installation and turned that skill into her own business, Hang It Up, helping to support her family for over 25 years. She found joy and community as a member of Peace Lutheran Church, the Anderson Mill Garden and Quilting Club, and the Anderson Mill Senior Center.
Jan was preceded in death by her husband Gene and their son Jimmy. She leaves behind 7 children, 24 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren who will miss her dearly and continue her legacy of love.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 3rd, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills, 9700 Anderson Mill Road, Austin, Texas. A Celebration of Life will be held on at Peace Lutheran Church, 10625 N FM 620, Austin, Texas on Thursday, Dec. 4th at 11am.
In honor of Janice, memorial contributions may be made to Peace Lutheran Church or Historic Anderson Mill.
