

Jean Elizabeth Castillo 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on January 23, 2016 in Dripping Springs, Texas. She was born on May 16, 1925 in Oak Park, Illinois to James McIntosh Adam and Ruth Marie Couffer Adam.
Jean grew up in Kansas City, Missouri. After graduating from Southwest High School in Kansas City, she attended the University of Missouri at Columbia where she pledged Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and was elected to the 1944 Savitar Yearbook Queen’s Court. Later in 1944 she met and married 2nd Lieutenant Marvin Brindley Small, Jr.
After WWII, Marvin and Jean resided in Wichita, Kansas where she was a member of the Junior League and was president of Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumni Association.
In 1967 Jean and her husband relocated to Westlake Village, California where Jean was active in the National Charity League and was an avid golfer. She worked for many years in retail and retired from the Executive Office of The Broadway Department Store in Thousand Oaks, California
.
Jean remarried in 1995, and she and Alfonso Silva Castillo moved to Dripping Springs, Texas. Jean retired for the second time in 2001 from The University of Texas at Austin. In her retirement years she was an active member of Saint Martin de Porres Catholic Church.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents James and Ruth, and older sister Virginia Pennington. Jean loved her family and is survived by her five children, daughter Susan Williams and husband Clyde of Colorado Springs, Colorado, daughter Diane Wells and husband Ward of College Station, Texas, son Trey Small and wife Lana of Lake Forest, California, daughter Debra Madden of Austin, Texas, and daughter Mariana Castillo of Dripping Springs, Texas; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held at Mount Moriah Cemetery in Kansas City, Missouri.
