She is predeceased by her mother and father; Jean Ellis (her namesake) and William Robert, (Bob) Bright; and her middle sister, Judy Bright Davidson. Bum is also survived by her son Lee Land, from her previous marriage to Frank Land, and also her youngest sister Star Bright Johnson.
Jean’s life was gifted; she celebrated many accomplishments. She is a third-generation Austinite born January 16, 1941, raised in Tarrytown and member of Good Shepherd Episcopalian Church. Jean graduated from Austin High School and attended The University of Texas where she attained two Bachelor’s and MBA degrees. While at UT she was an active member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. She was also a prestigious Austin Debutante and member of the Austin Junior League Society.
Jean was a beautiful engaging woman. Her captivating green eyes, engaging smile and playful dimples exemplified her spontaneity for fun. Jean always looked for ways to expand her mind as a voracious reader and study of philosophy. Her incredible intelligence and great thirst for knowledge in worldly matters demonstrated her desire to make a difference.
While her death is sad and difficult, it gives us, her family, great comfort that she is no longer in pain and enjoying the life she passionately lived prior to her brief illness.
