Jeanne Elizabeth Allen Huckabay

Jeanne Elizabeth Allen Huckabay passed away in Austin on 1 June 2015. She was born in Ennis, TX on 7 June 1921; daughter of Ira Raymond Allen and Jennie Gertrude Mann; and sister of Helen Lee Allen Waters.

Her family moved to Dallas when she was very young. She attended public schools and graduated from North Dallas High School. She attended both the University of Texas and SMU where she graduated and was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha. At SMU she met and married William Beno Huckabay. They were married for fifty six yrs until his death in 1999.

She was a homemaker and was active in her church and the community. Jeanne had a large group of friends that extended from Texas to San Diego, CA and Seattle, WA. Remarkably, she kept close ties with her grade school friends for more than 80 years. Even though her body suffered in her later years, her mind remained very sharp and she was never at a loss for an opinion.

She was a true friend to many and treasured her relationship with her daughters in law: Amalia and Peggy (deceased). She is survived by her son, Allen and wife, Amalia of Houston; son, John of Austin; granddaughter, Cheryl of Dallas; granddaughter Cindy Nelson, her husband Drew, and great grandson, Andrew of San Diego, CA.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday afternoon, 6 June at 2PM at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3003 Northland Dr, Austin, TX 78757. Donations should be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church, Attn: Prayer Shawl Ministry.
