Jeanne lived a rich and full life. She married her high school sweetheart, Walter Glenn Roup, DDS. He attended St. Thomas High School and she attended St. Agnes. Jeanne was a cheerleader for St. Thomas and voted most beautiful of her high school. She was blessed with natural beauty even at 88. All their lives together, Walter called her Jeanne Belle, his bride. Jeanne was a housewife and mother to their four children: Glenn, Bob, Cindy and Nancy. Jeanne was involved in the woman's Dental Auxillary Association and volunteered at the children's catholic school and church activities. She was very devoted to her children and actively participated in all their activities: football, baseball, track, boy scouts, girl scouts, swimming club, ballet. Jeanne and Walter had a pool and their house became the hang out for family, friends and a continuous possession of kids. Jeanne never minded another kid in the house and another boy in the garage rebuilding a motor on a model T.
Jeanne was an only child, but was very close to her grandmother. At the end of her life, many of her special possessions were things that her grandmother had given her. Her grandmother was an excellent seamstress and sewed many of Jeanne's clothes.
Jeanne is known for her devotion to her family. She adopted the Roup family as her own and her mother and father in law were like her parents and her sister in law, Greta McAndrews was her best friend. When the kids were growing up, they would talk on the phone daily. Jeanne's love and care of her family was central to her entire life.
Jeanne loved the sun, the beach and the water. She was a true beach bunny. Some of the family's fondest memories are spending summers in Galveston at great grandma B's home and spending the days on the beach. Jeanne loved to read under an umbrella and walk the beach shore combing the sands for shells and collecting them.
After the children were raised, Jeanne accompanied Walter while he traveled around taking courses for his master's in dentistry. She always had the car packed with his pillow and snacks and would enjoy swimming and reading while he attended courses.
Jeanne moved to Austin in 99 to live next to her daughter Cindy. She immediately met a group of friends from St. Catherine's church and they became the Golden Girls. Jeanne had many years full of adventures with these ladies as they went on outings, celebrated birthdays, ate out together, volunteered at the church in many capacities. Jeanne was the designated driver even though she was blind in one eye!
Jeanne was quite fond of her granddaughter, Celina, and they were special friends for 30 years. Celina asked to live with her Grandma and care for her at the end of her life. Jeanne ended her life with a clear mind, a great sense of humor and great devotion to her children and their families. She is known for her Jeanne-isms which entertained the family with the special way only she had of twisting words and sentences.
