Jeff Williamson, 66 of Austin passed away peacefully on January 14, 2024. Jeff was a true Austinite and child of the sixties. He was active in Boy Scouts at Camp Tom Wooten, and played baseball in North Austin Optimist leagues. He attended Sidney Lanier High School and Austin Community College. His love of cars and anything mechanical led him to work as an auto body shop mechanic for wages, but what brought him immense happiness was all things musical. He was a gifted musician, drummer, and guitarist and was part of the Austin music scene in the late 70's, 80's, and 90's. He later worked professionally as a sound engineer, affectionately known as JW and “Sparky” to his friends.
Jeff had a heart for the less fortunate and would reach out to those in need as he was able to lend a hand. He was quick to share a story or a joke to brighten someone’s day. His laughter, guitar picking, original songs and the mischievous glint in his eye will be missed by his family, and dear friend Carol Mynar of West. He is preceded in death by his mother, Wanda Griffith Williamson. He is survived by his father Bill Williamson, brother Mark Williamson, sister Jill Williamson Lormand and husband Larry, as well as his Texas and Alabama cousins. He was especially proud of his role as “Uncle Jeff” to his nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of an in-person visitation or flowers the family requests you share your personal favorite “Jeff memory” online, to be printed as a family keepsake collection of cherished memories. Jeff was always one with a sense of humor and wanted to have the last word. He would want you to have this opportunity to have yours, so please share your stories. To his extended music family and friends, there was always Jesus and “Amazing Grace” a melody that never fails.
