Jerry Paul Spencer, 59, of Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 7. Born in Alexandria, LA on April 3, 1947, Jerry graduated from the University of Houston in 1969 with a B.S. degree in mathematics and physics and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. After graduation he married his college and lifelong sweetheart, Gloria Stovall, with whom he shared 37 years of marriage marked by unswerving mutual commitment, compassion, and companionship. As was his life, his last few months were filled with the love, fellowship, and laughter of family and friends. Having worked for over 30 years in the computer software business, Jerry served from 1971-1979 as a database management developer with MRI Systems Corporation. From 1979-1984 he worked at Intel Corp. as Chairman of Strategic Planning for the Commercial Systems Software Division and later as Director of Engineering. In 1984 he became a Co-Founder and Director of Business Resource Software, co-developing strategic planning products. An avid golfer and world traveler, Jerry pursued these interests and all the joys and challenges of life with his devoted wife Gloria. Remarkable for his kindness, insight, and loving nature, Jerry was a true gentleman and devoted friend whose unremitting competence, thoughtfulness of other people, and calmness of spirit were seasoned with an infectious and equally unremitting sense of humor. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents William Baxter Spencer and Velva Baillio Spencer, his sister Patricia Spencer Cubage, and his brother William Baxter Spencer. He is survived by his wife Gloria; sister-in-law Barbara Smith and husband Randall of New York City; aunt Violet Carpenter of Hammond, LA; nephew Spencer Cubage and wife Liz of Bellville, TX; nieces Susan Cubage Ellis and husband Ken of Alvarado, TX, and Tiffany Spencer Hughes of Louann, AR; cousins Betty Frankhouser of Houston and R.L. Carpenter of Colfax, CA; and great nieces and nephews Jennifer Ellis Letenin, Chris Ellis, Kathryn Cubage, Coleman Cubage, Hana Gough and Mariah Gough. Serving as pallbearers are Spencer Cubage, Ken Ellis, Randall Smith, Kent Ochel, Bert Brown, and Kylon Gustin. Serving as honorary pallbearer is Ira Fariss. A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 12, at 10:00 a.m. at Highland Park Baptist Church, 5206 Balcones Drive. Interment will follow at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery.
