Jerry is survived by his wife of 48 years, Barbara Elliott Tindel, daughter and son-in-law Allison and Todd Hanslik, daughter and son-in-law Chelsea and Clay Duvall, three grandchildren Mack, Lisle and Mills Duvall, sister Patty Tindel Walker and husband Chuck Walker, brother Tim Tindel, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Elizabeth and Robert Elliott, and nieces Lindsey Elliott, Lauren Elliott Coston and husband Tadd Coston.
Jerry was born August 14, 1942 in Alvin, Texas. He was the oldest child of Tetsu Tindel and Ray Elvin Tindel. He attended Alvin High School during which time he became an Eagle Scout. Jerry subsequently attended the University of Texas School of Pharmacy, graduating with his Bachelors Degree in 1965. Higher aspirations led him to the University of Texas Medical School in Galveston, Texas, which he attended from 1965 to 1969. In Galveston he met the love of his life, Barbara Ann Elliott. Barbara and Jerry married in June 1967. In 1969, they moved to Indianapolis, where Jerry completed his medical internship at the University of Indiana. In 1970, they moved to Rochester, Minnesota where Jerry completed his residency in neurology at the Mayo Clinic. Jerry and Barbara then moved to Houston, Texas, where Jerry worked for Kelsey Seybold Clinic. In 1975, they moved to Austin, Texas, which has been home to them ever since. In addition to his medical service, Jerry also joined the Army Reserves in 1970. He served for six years.
In Austin, Jerry joined fellow doctors and friends from Mayo Clinic at Austin Diagnostic Clinic. Jerry cared for patients at Austin Diagnostic Clinic for 33 years. In addition to his office treatments, he saw patients at five Austin hospitals. Those who received his services spoke highly of his kind and gentle nature. He was director of the Muscular Dystrophy Center at Brackenridge Hospital for 15 years. He was on the board of Austin Diagnostic Clinic when the clinic acquired the property that has become the North Austin Medical Center. His friends recall that he had passionate opinions about all the goings-on of the clinic.
During his life, Jerry loved to play tennis with his family and friends. He was also an amazing photographer, with his own dark room and passion for landscapes. In later years he enjoyed playing golf with friends and his wife at the University of Texas Golf Club. Jerry was also an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the physicians and staff of Austin Diagnostic Clinic and North Austin Medical Center - your familiar faces were a blessing to see – especially Dr. Ghassan Salman, Dr. Robert Emerson and Dr. Stuart Damore.
