J.O. Colley, 81, of Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at Scott & White Hospital in Round Rock, Texas. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and respected attorney and CPA, J.O. lived a life marked by service, integrity, and deep love for his family.
J.O. was born on August 15, 1944, in Temple, Texas, to J.O. Colley Sr. and Fannie Maude Colley. He was raised with strong values that shaped the man he would become—values of hard work, responsibility, and doing what is right, even when it is difficult. Texas was always home to J.O., and Austin became the place where he built both his career and his family.
After proudly serving his country in the United States Marine Corps for six years, J.O. pursued higher education with determination and discipline. He graduated from Abilene Christian University in 1966 and went on to earn his law degree from the University of Texas School of Law in 1970. His education laid the foundation for a long and successful career as both an attorney and certified public accountant. Known for his sharp intellect and thoughtful counsel, J.O. was deeply respected by colleagues and clients alike. He approached his work with honesty and precision, believing strongly in fairness and personal responsibility.
In 1971, J.O. married Jan Stewart Colley, the love of his life. Their marriage spanned more than five decades and was built on commitment, partnership, and unwavering support for one another. Together, they raised a family and created a home filled with love, laughter, and tradition.
Above all else, J.O. was a family man. He took great pride in his children and found immense joy in being a grandfather. One of his most endearing qualities was his constant interest in his grandchildren—he never failed to ask about their lives, activities, and accomplishments. They were his greatest joy, and his love for them was evident to everyone who knew him.
J.O. is survived by his beloved wife, Jan Colley; his children, Jon Colley (Robbin) and Jill Markus (Jason); his grandchildren, Laken Colley, Lillian Evans, Tyler Evans, Adam Markus, and Evan Markus; and his sister, Ellen Rechenthlin. He leaves behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and quiet strength that will continue to guide his family for generations.
J.O. will be remembered for his steady presence, thoughtful conversations, dedication to his work, and, most of all, his deep and abiding love for his family. He will be profoundly missed and forever cherished.
