Jim McMurtry was taken home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 29, 2008, at the age of 64 years. His relationship with Jesus Christ was so personal that he likened it to the one that Enoch shared with God. He is survived by his wife of 4 years, Debbie McMurtry, of Austin, Texas; daughter, Melissa Pace, son-in-law, Jonathan Pace, and grandchildren Kimberlyn and Brendan Pace, of Austin, Texas; daughter, Michelle Holley, son-in-law, Shoan Holley, and grandchildren, Kambryn, Bryton, Keenan, and Annalyn Holley, of Woodway, Texas; daughter, Aimee Young, son-in-law, Cale Young, and grandchildren, Britton, Corbin, and Marin Young, of Chattanooga, Tennessee; and mother-in-law, Lurah Nale, of Rancho Viejo, Texas. His father, Paul McMurtry; and mother, Lela Taubert McMurtry; and his wife of 39 years, Linda Nale McMurtry, predeceased him. God used this wonderful man to impact the lives of so many people throughout his years of service as Justice of the Peace, County Attorney of Travis County, his career as an attorney here in Austin, through Smokey Denmark, and at his church Hyde Park Baptist Church. The family will welcome friends at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home on Monday, January 5, 2009, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. A memorial service celebrating the life and God's use of Jim will be held at Hyde Park Baptist Church on Tuesday, January 6, 2009, at 12:30pm. The family appreciates the care and attention provided by the physicians and nurses at Hermann Hospital who cared for Jim. The family is also thankful for the incredible encouragement, assistance, and support from our church family at HPBC and from the many other Christians who are praying for us in this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting the missionary work of Michelle and Shoan Holley. Tax deductible contributions may be made to Antioch Ministries International, 505 N. 20th Street, Waco, Texas 76707. Please write "In Memory of Jim McMurtry" on the memo line.
