

Joe Youngblood Joe Youngblood of Horseshoe Bay passed away peacefully on July 5th, 2004 after battling severe illness for the past three years. Joe was born in Abilene, Texas on July 15, 1934. In Abilene, he is still remembered as a star athlete in football, basketball and baseball. In 1952, Abilene High School awarded him the Thorton Trophy for most outstanding athlete. After graduating from Abilene High School, Joe received a scholarship to attend the University of Texas at Austin, where he played football and baseball. It was at the University of Texas that he met his future wife, Ruth Yates. They were married March 30, 1956. They were blessed with two children, Joe, Jr. and Richard. After graduation, Joe played professional baseball for one season with the Los Angeles Dodgers farm team in Victoria, Texas, then went on to coach football in Robstown, Banquete, Aspermont and Hamlin. In 1970, Joe and his family moved to Corpus Christi where he worked as an administrator and principal for the Corpus Christi Independent School District until his retirement in 1991. He and his wife moved to Horseshoe Bay in 1999 to be near his son and family in Austin. His family wishes to thank all of his Abilene and UT buddies, Hamlin exes and Horseshoe Bay neighbors for their care and concern over the last months. Their love lifted his spirits when nothing else could. We also would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Seton Hospital who made his time their as peaceful as possible. He leaves to treasure his memory his wife, his son Joe, Jr. and wife Patricia, his grandchildren Nicholas and Marisa, and his special friend Blackie. He was preceded in death by his parents, A. B. and Louise Youngblood, and his son, Richard. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 9, 2004 at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel. Interment will follow at Austin Memorial Park.
