Joel Saul Winograd

Joel will lovingly be remembered by his children, Alan Winograd, Steven Winograd, Sharyn Shirley and Jodi Schuleman (Andy). Joel will be deeply missed by his grandchildren, Sam Schuleman, Sage Shirley, Asher Schuleman, Cayla Winograd and Brynn Winograd. Joel was preceded in death by the love of his life, wife Ferne Winograd, and his beloved grandson, Seth Shirley.

Joel grew up in Lynn, MA and graduated from the University of Michigan and Bentley College. He was introduced to his wife, Ferne, through his best friend’s mother. He worked as a CPA for Price Waterhouse Coopers and in private practice in the greater Boston area during his early career.

Joel moved to Houston in 1978 to further pursue his private practice and certified financial planner license. He joined Congregation Beth Israel where he volunteered in many mitzvah projects, taught 5th graders in the religious school and worked as a chaplain assistant for Jewish inmates. In recent years, Joel enjoyed attending Torah and Talmud classes, book club, and spiritual grieving class.

Joel’s greatest pride and joy were his grandchildren. He loved taking them on trips and celebrating family events with them.
