John Allen Dismuke, age 71, of Austin, TX passed away on Friday, April 30, 2010 in the presence of his loving family. John was husband to Gloria for 48 years, father to Rory, and Grandpa (PaPa) to Lauren, Miss Jay, and Nannybelle. John was born in Granger, TX on August 12, 1938 to Lorene Greene Dismuke and Floyd Dismuke. He attended Austin schools and joined the United States Army at age 16. His service took him to Europe until an accident prevented him from continuing service. He was honorably discharged in April 1962. Upon his return to the U.S., John met and married Gloria Jean Howell. They had their only child, a son, Rory. It was also during this time John started his 31-year career with LCRA until his retirement as Manager of Transmission Services in 1994. John remained 4 additional years with LCRA as a Project Implementation Consultant. John's proudest moments were being a grandpa. Whether he followed his granddaughters around the country or right down the road watching them play softball, basketball, soccer, gymnastics, or ballet, he was there with the biggest grin and the most pride as their larger than life fan. He loved watching ALL the girls play on the team. At the same time, in his girl's eyes then and still today, he is their rock. Nobody was smarter than grandpa! (Especially in Math). In our beloved memory of John, he was a giving man to his family and company. John lived an honest life full of devotion to his family and organization, LCRA. John was a humble man who never sought out recognition or reward for his efforts. He will be remembered by his family for his big heart and selflessness. He never let anyone go without. Preceding John in death are his mother, father, and youngest brother Rodney. Surviving John include his loving wife, Gloria. Son, Rory and wife, Linda and their daughters Lauren Michelle, Jessica Taylor, and Bethany Celeste, also, his first yet to be born great-grandbaby, KC; his brothers, Dalton Dismuke of Waterford, MI and Jerry Dismuke of Pontiac, MI; his mother-in-law, Frances Howell; and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins. His true wealth was in his generous heart. Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 South Congress Avenue. Funeral Service 10:30 am on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel. Private interment at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
