

John Alfred Dunn was born January 4, 1928, and took his place with the Lord Sunday, January 8, 2023, at age 95. He passed quietly in his home of more than 65 years surrounded by his family and friends.
Born the first of two sons to his mother, Mary Nell Dunn, John grew up in the Bronx, New York where he worked as a lifeguard. As soon as he turned 18, John stepped up to serve his country. He enlisted in the Navy and served two years at the end of WWII. After an honorable discharge, John found his way to Texas where he settled in Austin and met the love of life Dolores June Renck. They were married in 1955. John based the foundation of his family life in his faith in God. Together they raised two children and opened their home to many others. He was a member of St. Martins Lutheran church, Lord of Life Lutheran Church and Christ Lutheran Church. John grew up in the Bronx, New York He worked as a union painter before starting his own painting company, painting some of the most iconic buildings in Austin including The Driskill Hotel. John's skill as a painter was well known in Austin for over 40 years. He had a magnetic personality and was known not only for his painting skills but his generous and kind heart. John had a love of WWII airplanes and history. He enjoyed Big Band Music, fishing, swimming and taking family vacations, but his real love was going dancing with his wife Dolores.
John and Dolores were married 67 years separated only by death when Dolores was called to the Lord on Sunday, February 27th, 2022. Ten months later on Sunday, January 8, 2023, John was called to dance again with his bride when they are reunited in heaven.
John is survived by His Brother Robert Dunn, Children John Michael Dunn, Daughter in law Dao Nguyen, daughter Patricia Marie Dunn- Babb, son in law Larry Babb, Grandchildren: Marcus Dunn and Kirra Dunn, Taylor Dunn, Madison Dunn, Hailee Babb, and Great Grandchild: Lana June Dunn.
