

John Richard Dyar March 18, 1941 – June 17, 2008 Our precious Richard, Daddy and Granddaddy was called home suddenly on June 17, 2008, at the age of 67. A brilliant star that shone so brightly as a talented engineer, scientist, athlete, inventor and musician, Richard was above all else OUR star – a man whose world was his family. We thank God for his life and love. We will always love him and miss him. Richard was born March 18, 1941 in Petersburg, VA. He graduated from high school in 1958 in Abbeville, SC, became an Eagle Scout at age 15, and earned the Order of the Arrow. He graduated from Clemson University with a BS in electrical engineering in 1964 and worked for NASA in Huntsville, AL. He began work with IBM in Lexington, KY in 1964 and transferred to Austin in 1970. He retired in 2006 after a 42 year IBM career in the areas of production, management, engineering, programming, plans and controls, and service. Richard was devoted to his family and had a special place in his heart for little kids. He actively enjoyed retirement, traveling, and singing in the church choir. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Dillard and Ruby Banister Dyar, of Abbeville, SC. He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Schmidt) Dyar, brother David, of Upper Marlboro, MD, and 5 children: Laura Merrill and husband Chris Sisto of Wimberley; Rachel Weddell and husband Ron of Rockport; Greg and wife Lisa of Austin; Kimberley of San Antonio; Karen James and husband Chad of Austin; and grandchildren Joseph and Caroline Sisto, and Andrew, Peter and Thomas Dyar. Visitation will be Saturday, June 21, 3:00-5:00 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Austin, 3003 Northland. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Friends of Scouting – Capitol Area Council, Clemson University Foundation, The American Heart Association, Covenant Presbyterian Church, Building Fund, or donor's choice.
