
When I first met John it was this summer in Austin.  I was a new recruit and had just gotten back from training in Dallas and my OJT assignment in St. Louis.  He was eager to meet me - one of the new regional reps for Waco - and share about his career and beginnings as a Trainer.  I will miss him and his energy and warmth.  He was top of the sales charts (Waco numbers among all us reps until he died) and will be top of our hearts forever.  I hope he will save me a dance in heaven since I never got to experience his "pasadoblay" that he was talking about before he went into the hospital.  He's dancing in heaven for sure with the angels and teaching the rest of the saints how to tango!!



John, I remember your smile.  I hope that as you look down from heaven you realize your smile touched people. I know your in a better place but you will be missed tremendously.        My sincere condolences to his family and friends. My prayers are with you.

John was such a sweet & joyous man and had a heart of gold! Stories?! Nobody who knew John could keep from recounting a special "story" he shared. Simple as they were, some true and others as tall as the Empire State building, they would always make you laugh. I adored John and his big personality, his contagious smile, and his soulful heart.  He will truly be missed!  My condolences and prayers are with his family.



John was so good to me and very helpful..When I started working at AT&T Yellow Pages (swbyp's)14 years ago he was the one who helped, coached and made me laugh ! and showed me how to sell big.  He told me about 3 months ago that the best way to find a good man was to join a dance class! he said that was how he met the most worderful women of his life his wife...He always had a kind word for me when things at work got a little stressful and he always was telling me funny jokes..I will miss him very much! He is in a better place now and I hope he is still watching out for all of us in T-Sales ....God got a true Angel that day!! My prayers & thoughts are with his wonderful family....



I will truly miss John.  I moved to Austin in May of 2007.  On my first day on the job here at Yellow Pages, John was the first person I met.  It gave me an opportunity to put a face on the name of a person that I had grown to respect from working on the phone.  What special blessing.  We shared many conversations after that. We shared a special writing that with each other that John totally lived. "I shall pass through this world but once. Any good therefore, that I can do or any kindness I can show to any human being, let me do it now... for I shall not pass this way again."    May God's blessing be upon the family at this special time of need

What an amazing man with such a big heart and a sweet, sincere, warm soul... Even though we only worked together a short time at SBC, we had met years before through my step-father Jerry Martin and because of that association he always made me feel like family and even more so, a friend.  One night, years ago, while we were at dinner with a group of people including my mom and stepfather, he shared with me a heartwarming story about a couple of squirrels and as small as that may sound to some, it's a sweet story I've never forgotten and a nice memory I'll always have of John and our private story-telling moment during dinner.  My prayers and thoughts are with his friends and family as I know this man will truly be missed by all who knew him.



I could not believe when i read of John's passing!  John was so full of life and fun to just be around.  Robin and I had some joke, which i can't fully  remember now, but we called him "Bill" rather than John.  I think he got a laugh out of us and the stupid stuff we did. John was such a joyous person and filled this world with lots of laughter!  He will truly be missed.



He will be missed greatly.  He brightened the day of each person he encountered.



John was truly 'John, The Beloved' of our family!  Ever since we all left the nest, he made the rounds calling his sibs - like so:     "Hello, Sister Mary!  This is Brother John.  Nothing urgent...I just wanted to call and check on you and tell you I love you!  How are you doing?"       Then, he updated each one of us on the others' news and well-being.      When John became highly successful in his sales career, I teased:     "JOHN!  You owe ALL your success TO ME!  If I hadn't taught you your ABC's, WHAT could you have done with your life?  Why, you'd probably be on some street corner rattling a tin cup!"      With his unique sense of humor, John could both 'dish it out' and 'take it'!    Mama and John forged a tight bond when he contracted polio at age four - and the apron string was never untied!  Sometimes, we other children referred to our mother as "John's Mama".      Everyone who knew John knows that, if given a choice, he didn't allow negatives in his life.   When faced with his last physical challenge, apparently, he said to himself...    "THIS is a NEGATIVE situation!  I don't want to do this, anymore...I'd rather go see Mama!"      (I love you, dearly, John!  Oh, how we all miss you!  Rest in peace, Dear Brother!)    Sister Mary



Although this fabulous man was my uncle, it was only in the last eight years that he became my friend and an inspiration in my life.  He was the epitomy of unconditional love and always a joy to be around.  UJ will live on in all those he touched.



I First met John at Transwestern Publishing.He has always been an angel from the first day I met him. I had the Privilege of working with John again at SBC/AT&T. Rarely have I met an individual who is so caring and passionate about everyone  he knows.I am Extremely lucky to have had the honor of knowing and working with him.



John had the sweetness of a saint and the mischievous twinkle in his eye of a 6 year old. I, like many others was the beneficiary of his "power lunches." He was never afraid to share stories on his mistakes and laugh at himself.  My favorite was the time he became fascinated with an extension mirror when we were working in New Braunfels.  His fascination led him to trim a few hairs on the back of his head. But then the other hair didn't match so he kept on trimming.  After another little cut here and another little cut there, his hair was so botched he was afraid to go out in public.        After knowing him for 26 years I constantly got to see how much fun he had with people and how generous he was with love and encouragement.  One minute he was teaching dance steps in the hallway and another minute he was sharing sales strategies.   Cynthia, I know how much he loved you and his family. Thankyou for sharing him with us.  My sincerest condolences to Cynthia and the whole family.



John always said that my Dad, Bill King was one of the nicest guys that he had ever met.  I think the same of John.  I hope that he and my Dad are sharing a lot of stories about the old days in the Yellow Pages.



We know John only on a professional basis, as he sold us yellow page ads.  We actually looked forward to our annual visit with John to renew our contract. Dear Cynthia,    I am  so sorry about John's death. He was a wonderful man who touched so many lives with his joy and generosity. Please allow me to extend my condolences regarding the loss of your loved one.May the scripture at Revelation chapter 21 verses 4 and 5 bring the family comfort for it states, "He (God) will wipe out every tear from thier eyes and death will be no more..." John and I have crossed paths in many different ways as my life has changed over the last 25 years, and I have gotten to know him quite well. I consider him a real friend and will sorely miss trading barbs. Happy motoring, John!



John,  You were among just a few people in my life that always put a smile on my face when I wasn't having the best day.   I will miss you in my life.  I still hear  your footsteps coming down the hall towards my desk to grab a piece of dark chocolate!  I will treasure every moment we shared together. Damnit John - I miss you! Everyone is walking around the office in a fog. Each of your friends has their own very personal, very entertaining, story to share about you. We will miss you terribly but you have danced through our hearts and we will carry your tune with us like a favorite song.    I love you. I had the opportunity to work with John and really enjoyed the days when he would come over to my desk and show Sunny and myself one of his dance moves.  He just cracked me up.          Being his payroll and commission clerk for years I feel like I have lost one of my children. I called the reps my children and it seemed like I was always trying to track down one of them to get info from them and John was tracked down a lot. But I enjoyed every moment of it.          It may be hard for you to accept this right now but from experience it will get better.  Just trust in the Lord and he will make evrything alright for you. My prayers go to to John's family for their loss.  John was a wonderful, caring man.  I remember (many years ago) when some kids were hot rodding through the neighborhood late at night and creating noise, John stayed up all night in his car, motor idling, to try to get license plate numbers or so forth to notify the parents.  Ironically, John's car would have out hot rodded any teenager's.  John was always ready with a kind word or a smile anytime we met.



There are so many joyful memories of John. John and I would talk about work often (obviously) but mostly when we spoke we shared our faith.  There are many words that could be used to describe John's excellent character...some that come to mind are honor, integrity, wisdom and joy...so many great words to describe a great man -- so much so that I know that our Lord is already telling John "Well done my good and faithful servant!"  I so look forward to the day that I get to see John again!  And to his loving family during this difficult time may you lean on God and God's Word to comfort you.      2 Corinthians 1:2-4 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.  Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all of our troubles...



Words can't descirbe how much John has impacted so many people's lives.  He was always kind & caring for others.  He will be missed dearly.  My thoughts & prayers are with the Everist family.



John was truly one in a million.  He was blessed with an amazing sense of humor, and I was blessed to have known him.



John was such a sweet man.  He always had a way of making me feel special.  He would tell me,"you just have the best smile and personality."  We talked about dance, travel and many other things.  One of my favorite memories is of John telling me how much he loved to get testimonials from his customers about why the yellow pages worked for them.  He then suggested that I write a personal testimonial for him on why I enjoyed working with him.  I wrote it as he stood around and waited.  I am so glad that I did that because I had the opportunity to let him know that he was special to me.  My sincere condolences are with John's family at this time.  I will miss him.



My deepest sympathy to the family for this tremendous loss.  John always brightened my day with his sunny disposition and great attitude. Always reminded me to sell  "Sticky" ads...ones that renewed year after year.  Many of my sticky ads have been in directories for over 15 years.   John would give sincere compliments to all that he would meet.  When John said,  " I want to ask you a favor" ....he most assuredly was  granted whatever he wished, because we love him....he inspired us all to greatness.  Thank you John.



John was very special to us in the Art Department and every spring we could look forward to seeing his smiling face requesting red reverse headlined full-page sketches for his entire yellow page assignment.  We would moan and groan about the lack of creativity in the formulaic "John Everist" ads but he would always smile his knowing smile and say they worked for him.  And they did.  John always had a smile on his face and I never heard him speak a harsh word to anyone.  He was greatly admired as a salesman and as a person.  I will miss him and his ads.
