We wish to honor and celebrate the life of John B. Jones, our father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He was dearly loved by his family and everyone who knew him. He received his promotion to Heaven on March 9, 2016. Preceded in death by his son, Robert L. Jones, he is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jacqueline C. Jones and by his three sons, Dick, Donald, and David, as well as 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Born in Georgia, he lived most of his childhood in the little town of Union Springs, Alabama where he met his childhood sweetheart and the love of his life, Jacqueline Cottle whom he married in June of 1948.
Answering his nation's call in 1945, he joined the Navy at 17 years of age and served as a Medic for two years. Then returning to Alabama he married Jackie, and attend the University of Alabama (Roll Tide!) where he was active in R.O.T.C. In 1948 he, feeling his nation's call once again, entered the nation's military forces. This time however, as a 1st Lieutenant in the U. S. Air Force.
In the Air Force, Lieutenant Jones served as a navigation training Instructor at James Conley Air Force Base in Waco, Texas.
As a Captain, He served at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Lompoc, California as an Atlas Missile & Silo crew chief. For the last few years of his time at Vandenberg, he served as the United States West Coast Range Safety Officer until 1975 when he retired as a Major proudly having served 20 years of faithful service to his country.
He and Jackie retired to Austin, Texas. "J.B." (Jackie's favorite nickname for him) enjoyed singing in church where they were active members. They visited the sick and shut-ins and were often called "Mom and Dad" by many young people of their congregation.
J.B. enjoyed music, old movies, family gatherings, dogs, cats, reading and traveling. But most of all he enjoyed his grandchildren.
He lived a life of service to his county, to his family, and to his Lord, into Whose Hands we've entrusted him with gratitude for his honorable legacy.
