John is survived by his devoted wife, Kelly; his children, Bryker (13) and Kayden (11); his parents, Ronald and Mary; his sister, Kathy Peck; in-laws, Kurt and Linda Marshek; sister-in-law, Nicki (Chad Bickley); nieces, Lauren and Kate MacDonald, and Allie and Kate Bickley; and nephews, Ryan and Collin MacDonald, and Will Bickley.
He was deeply cherished by all who knew him and will be remembered for his unwavering love and support for his family, his sharp wit, and the laughter he brought to every room.
Born on May 12, 1972 in Newport, Rhode Island to Lieutenant Commander Ronald and Mary Peck, John spent his early years in Beeville, Texas before starting elementary school in San Diego, California. The Pecks settled in the Dallas area where he graduated from Martin High School in Arlington. John attended the University of Texas at Austin where he earned both his BA and MPA in Accounting, Magna Cum Laude, and played for the UT men’s soccer team, forging lifelong friendships along the way.
John built an exemplary 30-year career in finance and operations, spending the last twelve years at Q2, where he was a vice president and a highly respected friend and colleague. His dedication and leadership left a lasting impact on those he worked with.
He was a passionate athlete who found immense joy running with friends following a competitive high school and collegiate soccer career. John completed many long distance events including multiple marathons and several ultra-distance races. He was a three-time finisher of The Leadville Trail 100, an ultramarathon in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, including once when his wife, Kelly, proudly paced him the last fifty miles. Whether training for a race or simply enjoying a long run, John inspired those around him with his determination, resilience, and love for sports.
These characteristics served John well during the time he lived with lymphoma. John refused to let the disease define his final years. He was an avid outdoorsman and skier who maintained his commitment to skiing annually with friends and family. A mere seven months ago, John and Kelly climbed a 13,000 foot peak with their children. With the same spirit of persistence and his trademark wry humor, John made time to travel, be present with family and friends, and continued his professional work until his final days. He valiantly endured many rounds of treatment and clinical trials without complaint or publicity. Through every challenge, John remained a pillar of strength, humility, faith, and optimism. His courage and steadfastness continue to serve as an inspiration to all who knew him.
Above all, John’s crowning achievement was his role as Kelly’s husband and Bryker and Kayden’s dad. He remained active and involved; his commitment to them was a driving force in the way he lived, and his love for them was unending.
A Celebration of Life will be held in John’s honor on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Austin Country Club (4408 Long Champ Drive, Austin, Texas 78746). Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate the life of a remarkable man who left an indelible mark on so many. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or MD Anderson, supporting ongoing cancer research, treatment, and prevention. The family would also like to thank Texas Oncology, MD Anderson Cancer Center, and the countless medical professionals who supported John along the way.
