Devoted Husband, Proud Father, Cherished Pappaw, Loyal Friend, and True Texan
September 15, 1944 – June 22, 2025
John F. Pinion III, of Cedar Park, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2025, at the age of 80. A proud son of the Lone Star State, John lived a rich and meaningful life rooted in love, laughter, and deep devotion to his family, faith, and favorite things — Elvis, football, and all things Texas.
Born on September 15, 1944, in Corpus Christi, Texas, John grew up with a strong sense of independence and an even stronger sense of humor. His quick wit, kind heart, and unmistakable laugh made every room warmer. He had that rare ability to truly listen — to make others feel seen, heard, and appreciated.
In 1969, John met and married the love of his life, Katherine. They raised two children, Johnny and Dahnya, making their home in Austin, Texas.
For over six decades, John built a career in furniture sales and management, proudly representing Winners Only Furniture. A master of connection and conversation, he earned the trust and friendship of clients and colleagues alike. But perhaps the greatest joy of his professional life was working side by side with his son, John IV, for nearly three decades — a partnership rooted in respect, legacy, and love.
Outside of work, John’s world revolved around the people he loved. He was a devoted husband to Katherine, his sweetheart and wife of 50 years. Together, they made cherished memories — especially their pilgrimages to Las Vegas to see Elvis perform live at the International Hotel. Their love was a partnership filled with music, laughter, and unwavering devotion.
John was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, a loyal Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns fan, and a grandfather who never missed a chance to talk football or share a meal with his grandkids. Saturdays and Sundays were sacred — filled with family, food, and touchdowns.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Katherine Pinion, his brother Steven Pinion, and his son, Shawn Pinion. The comfort in this loss is knowing our parents, John and Katherine, are reunited side by side, just as they were for five decades.
John is survived by his brother, Bill George of Dallas, two children: John F. Pinion IV (and wife Michelle Pinion) of Cedar Park, and his daughter, Dahnya Smith (and husband Brian Smith) of Lago Vista. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren: Casey Pinion (and wife Carolina Miranda) of Costa Rica, John F. Pinion V and Austin Pinion of Cedar Park, and Alexa Katherine Smith and Hudson Smith of Lago Vista; and his great-granddaughter Olivia of Costa Rica.
John’s legacy is one of loyalty, laughter, strength, and love — a man who lived with integrity, led with heart, and loved without limits.
A celebration of his life will be held on September 13th, 2025, at the home of Dahnya and Brian Smith in Lago Vista, Texas. Friends and family will gather to share stories, enjoy his favorite foods from Camino Real Mexican Restaurant, and watch a little Longhorn football — just the way John would have wanted.
