

He was born August 13, 1933 in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the Navy and served in the Korean War on the USS Cabot. He later graduated from college and went on to obtain an MBA from St. Edward’s University.
John devoted his professional life to State Farm Insurance, where he served with dedication and distinction as a Division Manager for Commercial and Personal Lines. His leadership, integrity and unwavering commitment to excellence left a lasting impact on both colleagues and clients over the decades.
Beyond his professional life, John found true happiness in the beauty of nature. He was an avid golfer, camper and fisherman - spending countless weekends on the greens or near the water with friends and family.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 73 years, Lucille Sager, his cherished daughter, Anna Sager and her husband Charlie Paul, his beloved granddaughters, Sonya and Savanna Sleeper and a sister Barbara Casselberry. John was preceded in death by his brothers Bob, Jim, and Richard and his sister Pauline.
John will be remembered for his quiet strength and steadfast principles. His legacy endures through the lives he touched and the values he exemplified. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Austin, 4107 Spicewood Springs Road, Austin, TX 78759 in John’s memory, in gratitude for the compassionate care and support provided during his final days.
A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at the First Presbyterian Church, 8001 Mesa Drive, Austin, Texas 78731 and a reception will follow.
