John Timothy "Tim" Thurman

Tim came into this world on October 28, 1948 in Abilene, Texas. He was the oldest of four boys born to Dorothy "Jean" and Mel Thurman. He spent his childhood in Abilene where he developed his love for football. He graduated from Abilene High School where he played the game and was honored as an "All American Fullback". He received a scholarship for football and played at Henderson County Junior College until a broken leg ended his football career. Tim then went to Texas Tech in Lubbock where he later began a long and prosperous career in floor covering. He and his family moved to Austin, Texas in 1972 where Tim later began working for Fashion Floors. There, he made many long lasting friendships and worked in a family atmosphere for over 25 years. Tim and family built a home on the beautiful Lake Travis, where many happy years were spent on the lake that he so loved. In 1990 Tim married his second wife and soul mate, Susan. They made their home in Austin but also purchased land on Lake Travis, fondly known as "The Lake Lot" where many memories were made.

Tim made many friends over the years and maintained his friendships for life. He was a man who loved having a good time and believed in living life to the fullest. He had a quick wit, spoke in riddles and joked in puns. He taught his children the importance of hard work, manners and balancing life with fun. He was a proficient cook and perfected the art of smoking meat on his beloved "pit" where he delighted in feeding everyone around. He loved spending days on the boat on Lake Travis with family and friends. He also enjoyed hunting, reading, watching Longhorn Football and sitting by his fire at home with the cat he never knew he wanted, "Hook'em" by his side.

Tim was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Susan Randolph Petri Thurman, his mother Dorothy "Jean" Thurman and brother Tom Thurman. He is survived by his loving children, Alisa and husband Howard "Snuffy" Rogers of Bertram, TX, Tucker and wife Whitney Thurman of Austin, TX, Todd and wife Meaghan Thurman of Kyle, TX as well as three step daughters, Kristin and husband Darrell Uptmor, Kerry Paine and husband Bryan Forrester and Kathryn Paine. Tim is also survived by his father, Mel Rust Thurman, as well as two brothers Terry and Ted Thurman of San Antonio, TX. He was known as "Poppy" by his grandchildren and he enjoyed time spent with them. Missing their Poppy are Jessica and Colby Rogers, Madoc, Presley , Grayson and Haddie Thurman, Averi Paine-Montgomery, James Evans and Elizabeth Uptmor. Many, many friends are also left with fond memories to cherish. He will be loved and missed by all.

Services will be held on Friday, February 7 at 3 PM at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral home on North Lamar with long time friend, Rusty Cook, officiating. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Meals on Wheels at http://www.mealsonwheelsandmore.org/give/ or charity of choice in his name.
