I graduated from. Temple High School in 1967.  Barta's Pizza was the first pizza I ever ate.  We hung out there and enjoyed leftover, cold pizza for breakfast the next day.  Still trying to find a pizza to beat Barta's. Good memories! Marion Evans Thornton

Along with his obvious intellect, Joe had a highly refinedand drysense of humor. Being able to find the absurd, (and funny), in unpleasant situations is certainly a gift worth cultivating to be sure!

It was at a deadly boring business referral lunch meeting in Austin that I first me Joe. Amongst these very serious business types, we two not quite as serious business types found the humor in things

It really didn't matter what the subject as the meeting progressed, we two reveled in our mutual cleverness as we quipped.

We realized quickly that we were the only ones in the room that were appreciating our brilliance. And it wasn't that we were being disruptive at all, we might as well have been speaking in a foreign tongue that only the two of us understood. I remember Joe making a gesture to that effect.

And it turned out as we got to know each other, Joe and I had a great deal in common. We became fast friends and I will miss him.

But in this time of my reflection on these memories, I am comforted in knowing that surely Joe is still laughing.

I am Dave Hubbard, his friend forever.

Our hearts are heavy with the passing of Joe. Looking at those great photos reminds me he was a man of many talents. A maestro of music, an intellect smarter than two owls, a visionary and most of all a great listener and good friend. Oh my, the laughs we had over conversations of carrot juice, jalapeno wine, weird Austin and typewriters will stay with me forever. Lindy my prayers go out to you and the family.

As I said in my personal FB message to Lindy, I have very fond memories of Joe starting many years ago when I first started playing tennis. He was a wonderful person....a calm and positive force at the club...and he will be greatly missed.  I hope that the love and appreciation of the GHCC family will bring each of you some measure of comfort.

Lindy, my heart goes out to you during this difficult time.  Joe, the guy who taught me the art of driving and trust.  The memories of our time in Europe, the visits in Austin and a couple of reunions will be with me forever.  When there is an after life, could you look for my clarinet in the Danube River near Ulm?  Anything I can do, Lindy, just call.

I am so sorry to hear my favorite violin Teacher has passed. My heart goes out to all of Mr. Barta's family. I grew up & went to school in Temple, Texas. I began playing violin in 4th grade...all through my Senior year at THS. I learned so much from this man. He was very kind and always made me want to be better. Orchestra was my favorite class. Thank you for sharing his life in pictures. May God be with the family.

Linda, I am so sorry for your loss. i didn't know Joe, but from all your pics on FB, I know he was your one true love and you were definitely his! I thank God for your 46 wonderful years together, and I believe that one day you will be together again. In the meantime, I am in Georgetown, TX, still missing my Beloved, but taking one day at a time. I would be honored to spend time with you and talk about Joe when you need a friend. I love you!

Bless his soul. Joe was the loveliest man--so accomplished and so kind. After 46 years of such a successful marriage, Lindy, I know Joe will always be with you, and live on in fond memories of all who knew him.

My thoughts are with Linda and the family in these difficult times.  Joe was one of the reasons I followed the path I did. I pursued music as my career.  He was one of the teachers that I loved and respected and I know he gave much to others he taught as well.  Thank you Mr. Barta.  I know you will be missed but you have left a piece of yourself with all of us who knew you.  Rest in peace.

It was always a pleasure to see Joe and Lindy at the 4thh Armored Division reunions all around the country. Our last time together was in Indianapolis,Indiana. For those of us that were there, it will always be a treasured time. Rest in Peace old comrade.
