Our mother Josephine Acosta Contreras, age 97, went to meet our Lord Friday, February 2, 2024. Our Mom was born January 9, 1927, and lived a long and healthy life until the end. She was a strong woman and with Dad's help raised seven children: Carolyn Tellez (Gil), Lydia Melendez (Gilbert), Vincent Contreras (Mary Lou), Felix Contreras (Norma), Paul Contreras, Jesse Contreras (Janie), and last but not least, Linda, a special needs daughter whom she cared for until the very end.
Because of her strength and will, she lived an independent life, and loved an occasional trip to play the slots, and frequent quick trips to Lockhart for BBQ. As recently as a couple of weeks ago, she was talking about another trip to the casino, and the family was waiting for better weather to make her wishes happen.
She was so strong willed that up until three months ago, she would drive to McDonald's on William Cannon every morning to get her coffee, rain or shine.
After losing our Dad, Vincent Contreras Sr. in 2013, she has run her household pretty much without any help. In addition to loving family gatherings, she was much into collecting treasurers at various antique stores around town and she had a great eye for pretty things. Fashion was her passion and she loved the best in clothes and shoes, but they had to be on sale or she would not buy.
Our Mom was predeceased by her parents, Felix Acosta I, Jacinta Acosta; brothers, Elijio Acosta, Felix Acosta II, Jacinto Acosta, Frank Acosta, and has one surviving brother, Lupe Acosta.
This was our Mom and we will miss her terribly. We know she is at peace.
