

Juan was born May 16, 1922 in Redford TX to Jose Lujan and Jesusita Nieto. He completed high school in Marfa and then worked in the Civilian Conservation Corp assisting in the construction of the Big Bend National Park until he was called into the Army Air Corp. Juan was a radio operator on a C47 and served in Italy and North Africa. After an honorable discharge, he attended the University of Texas, earning a degree in sociology. He worked in the South Texas Valley for eighteen years as a teacher and principal completing his Masters in Administration, and then worked for the Office of Economic Opportunity in the War on Poverty. In 1968, he moved his family to Austin and was employed by the Southwest Educational Developmental Laboratory. Juan earned his Ph. D in Educational Administration in 1978. As a professor he taught at St. Edwards in Austin and University of Sol Ross in Alpine. During retirement, he was an active member of LAMP for twenty-two years.
Juan married Socorro in 1948. He is survived by Socorro, and their four sons, Hector, Denis, Nolan, Don, and their spouses, five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Nov. 27 at St. Louis Catholic Church 7601 Burnet Rd. Burial to follow at Cook Walden Capital Parks with Military Honors.
