

Juanita was born in Muizenberg, South Africa, where her father served in the British Royal Navy. She grew up in Newbury, England, attended an all-girls Academy, and studied ballet. During World War II, she worked for the Admiralty in London and managed to survive the blitz. Her mother served as a nurse during the war in England and later in America. Juanita met and married an American glider pilot and moved to Austin, Texas in 1947. During her life, she continued to travel extensively throughout the world.
Juanita worked for Southwestern Bell and later AT&T for 30 years, where she became the first female District Manager with responsibility for the Southwest Region. She was known for her civic work in Lubbock and her leadership skills in Austin. Following retirement, she worked for many years as a volunteer at Seton Hospital in Austin.
Juanita was preceded in death by her parents John and Dorothy Gago, her husband William R. Bryant, and her daughter Debra S. Bryant. She is survived by her daughter, Victoria Lunsman; her grandchildren Steve Lunsman, Tamara Connie, Joshua Nix, and Chelsea Silvermintz; and 6 ½ great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank the LifeCare Center of Plano and Hospice for the loving care they showed Juanita during her final days. Donations may be made to Hospice or the Arthritis Foundation.
A visitation will be held at eight o’clock in the morning followed by a graveside service conducted at half past nine on Wednesday, the 4th of September 2013, at Austin Memorial Park, 2800 Hancock Drive, Austin, Texas, under the direction of Cook-Walden Funeral Home.
