Juanita Prewitt was born July 28, 1917 in Enloe near Paris, Texas. She died at the age of 92 after a period of declining health. Juanita called Austin her home for almost all of her adult life, except 5 years when the family lived in Harlingen, Texas. She worked in retail at the downtown Scarbrough's in Austin and at Young Fashions in Harlingen. After raising her family, she worked as a live-in dorm mother in private housings serving University of Texas students; she was employed at Dexter House, Delta Gamma Sorority, and her last post of almost 20 years was at the Scottish Rite Dormitory. Juanita was a member of the Travis Chapter 472 Order of the Eastern Star. She had recently received her 50 year pin of membership. Juanita is preceded in death by her parents Agnes Benson and Lawrence Fleming of Paris, Texas; her husband, J.T. Prewitt, and her son, Joe Prewitt, both of Austin. She is survived by her daughter, Frances Jayne Prewitt; granddaughters, Laurie Barr, Karen Acock, Tejana Aguirre; grandson, Ansel Aguirre; great-grandchildren, Danielle Barr, Emma Acock, and Adam Acock. She will also be missed by her sister, Faye Pyle of Paris, Texas; other family members and many friends. Services will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home on N. Lamar on Thursday, December 17 at 4:00 p.m.
