

Kate is survived by her husband, William Edward Hill III; her son, Homer Ross Tomlin; her son, David Dalton Tomlin, and his fiancée, Anne Kathryn Goetz; her stepmother, Marian Harris Thornberry; her sister, Molly Thornberry Schiller, and her husband, Berle Mark Schiller; her brother, David Homer Thornberry; her stepson, William Edward Hill IV; her stepdaughter, Laura Christian Hill; her brother-in-law, Richard Holstead Hill; her aunt, Gunvor Engle; and many friends.
Kate grew up in Austin, Washington D.C., El Paso, and again in Austin as her family moved in support of her father's positions as a U.S. Representative and a federal judge. She attended Austin High School and the University of Texas, where she received her B.A. in history and was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha. She married Richard Alan Tomlin and moved to Houston, where their sons were born.
Concurrently with being a full-time doting mother, she worked full-time for the Texas Association of Staffing for more than 30 years, most of them as its executive director. She was a member of the Texas Society of Association Executives and the American Society of Association Executives, which designated her as a Certified Association Executive. She was also a member of the Junior League of Houston. She was incredibly devoted to her family and selflessly strove to ensure everyone's happiness. She loved Austin, Houston, Galveston, much of the rest of Texas, UT, cats, Tex-Mex, onion rings, family vacations, and laughing.
A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin. It will be followed by interment at Oakwood Cemetery and a reception at the Headliners Club in the Chase Tower downtown.
