
Kathleen Rex Chapman died of smoke inhalation as the result of an accidental fire in her apartment on the night of August 11, 2006. She was a sweet, caring, and beautiful lady who loved her family and friends. She was 63. Kathy Chapman spent the early years of her life in the Boston suburb of Marblehead, MA in a house overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Her family later moved to Hendersonville, NC, where she graduated from high school, before attending the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She subsequently moved to Chicago and worked at The Northern Trust Bank for several years. While vacationing in Europe, she met Daniel K. Chapman, Jr. who was a writer for the popular weekly magazine Look. They later married and lived in New York City, until Dan decided to pursue an academic career in Texas. He received his doctorate from Rice University in Houston and later became a professor at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin at Odessa. Following her husbands death from cancer in 1992, Kathy moved to Austin, and at the time of her death was employed as an administrative assistant at the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas. Kathy is survived by her sister, Diane Kelly, and her brothers, Gartland Rex and Michael Rex, as well as by her stepson, Daniel K. Chapman III. A gathering in Kathys memory will be held at the McCombs School of Business during early September, followed by a private burial in Odessa, Texas. Obituary and guestbook online at wcfish.com
