

Kathleen Lockhart Hutchens passed peacefully Saturday, July 7, 2007 after a battle with cancer. Her endless love and faith were shared with her family and friends. She will always be remembered as a shining star. Kathleen was born December 29, 1927 in Austin, Texas. She was the only child of O.P. and Helen Lockhart. After graduating from Stephen F. Austin High School, she attended The University of Texas where she received a degree in Physical Education and was a member of Alpha Delta Pi. While attending The University of Texas she met her future husband, Miles E. Hutchens. Miles and Kathleen were married in 1950. That same year she began a career in teaching at Bryker Wood Elementary School. She left teaching to become a full time mom of three. Being a life long resident of Austin she became involved in many local organizations. She served as the president of the Junior Austin Womens Club, president of Save the Children, board member of Laguna Gloria, alumni board Alpha Delta Pi, member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd and was responsible for setting up the first Northwest Hills Garden Club. Taking on a new challenge in 1976, she began a career in real estate with Amelia Bullock. Over the next 31 years, she witnessed and participated in the growth of Austin. She ended her career with Avenue One in April 2007. Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by son Terry Hutchens, wife Synthia, grandsons Bret and Kyle all of Round Rock; son Craig Hutchens, wife Jeanine, granddaughter Alexandra, grandson Miles all of Houston; and daughter Mary Helen Barrick, husband Brett, granddaughter Haley all of Victoria. The family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to all those who comforted and loved Kathleen on her journey. Serving as Pallbearers are, Ira Shapiro, Kevin Chapman, Jeff Nash, John Payne, John Williams, Jim Vance, and Greg Bair. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers are Rooster Andrews, Jimmy Bouldin, Art Haws, Frank Newsom, Frank Severn, Lloyd Pratt, Lon Smith, and Sid Wattinger. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 3201 Windsor Rd, Austin with The Rev. Kelly Koonce officiating. Burial will follow at Austin Memorial Park. A reception will follow graveside services at Good Shepherd.
