Larry was born and raised in Austin, Texas, and graduated from Lanier High School in 1967. He went on to attend the University of Texas, where he was just 12 hours shy of completing his degree when he chose to serve his country by joining the Texas National Guard. Larry began his military career as a helicopter mechanic and later earned his IT certification, ultimately becoming a pioneer in modernizing military technology. Following Operation Desert Storm, Larry played a key role in upgrading the Army National Guard’s IT infrastructure. Larry served faithfully and with great pride and dedication for 39 and a half years, retiring in 2009 with the rank of Sergeant Major.
Larry's love of music was lifelong. He was the lead guitarist in the country western bands Ronnie & The Westwinds and Country Road, and he found great joy and connection through music. His passion for music was matched by his love of the outdoors, especially fishing. He went on an annual fishing trip with his Redeemer alumni group, often joined by his beloved former principal, Norm Stuemke. Larry also enjoyed playing golf with his sons, watching classic Westerns on TV, and savoring quiet, joyful moments with his family. Family was everything to Larry. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and the family’s many beloved pets. His quick wit, warm laugh, and deep devotion to those he loved will be missed more than words can say.
A man of deep faith, Larry was a charter member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Austin, where he began attending at the age of four. He was a proud member of the first class at Redeemer Lutheran School when it was founded. Over the years, he served in many roles within the church community, reflecting his enduring commitment and service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin G. and Evelin Becker; his younger brother Steve Becker; sister-in-law Ellen Clark; and brothers-in-law Terry and Ted Briggs.
Larry is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Kristine (Kris) Becker; his sons David Becker (wife Hafida; grandchildren Ephram and Kamilah), Keith Becker (wife Kristy; grandchildren Bradyn, Elizabeth, and Audrey), and his daughter Sarah Becker. He is also survived by his sister Glenda Overfelt (husband Ray); sisters-in-law Tracy Adams (husband Mark) and Kerry Lemon (husband Jim); brothers-in-law Tim Briggs and Ross Bryant (wife Barbara); and many other loving family members and dear friends.
Larry will be remembered for his deep love of family, his faith, his passion for music, and his dedicated service to his country. His legacy of integrity, warmth, and selfless service will live on in the lives of all who knew and loved him. Larry served faithfully in many roles throughout his life. His legacy of faith, service, kindness, and laughter will continue to live on through the countless lives he touched.
