

He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1960 and after 29 years of exemplary service, including serving in Vietnam, retired and started a new career working for the Information Services Division at the Texas Department of Transportation. He finally decided to truly retire in 2008 to enjoy his grandchildren and favorite hobby, model RC aviation.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Barbra Sue Smallridge; and by his brother, Arvil Smallridge.
Larry is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marlies Smallridge; his children, Scott Smallridge, Michele Gonzales, Karin Johnson, and Thomas Smallridge; daughter-in-law, Debbie; son-in-law, Homer D. Johnson II; grandchildren, Brandy Johnson, Homer D. Johnson III, Melissa Edwards, Alexander Gonzales, Michael Edwards, Ashley Smallridge, Amy Nicholson, and Rachel Smallridge; great-granddaughters, Tessa Johnson, and Madeline Edwards; and great-grandson, Maxton Edwards.
Funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m., Monday, March 10, 2014 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home Chapel with Celebrant Donna Mayfield to officiate. Graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery located at 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road in San Antonio, Texas 78209. Full military honors under the auspices of the U.S. Air Force.
