

Larry was born in San Antonio, Texas to Erich C. Zunker and Ola Mae Zunker on March 12, 1939. They moved to Rosenberg, Texas when he was 3 years old and he graduated from Lamar Consolidated High School in 1957.
Larry excelled in his studies as well as on the athletic field lettering in football (team captain), baseball and track. He passed on several athletic scholarship offers to attend The University of Texas at Austin where he earned a BS in mechanical engineering in 1962. He moved to Houston and married Georgia Pollock in 1963. He then moved to Austin with his young family in 1969, and founded Climate Engineering. Climate Engineering was a highly successful (and recognizable through its tri green colored vans and trucks) air conditioning and heating company focusing in the commercial space for over 20 years. He was involved with several professional organizations and served as presidents of many of those organizations, ASHRAE, ABC, AACA, Professional Engineers Association and was selected as “Who's Who” in the 1980s among HVAC contractors.
In his spare time he enjoyed watching and attending any UT athletic event and was an avid hunter and angler. He enjoyed being involved with all his children's school and sports activities where he excelled as their coach and is fondly remembered by many of their classmates as Coach Zunker.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years Georgia Zunker, their four children Greg Zunker (Georgetown), Carol Zunker Bethea (Dripping Springs), Erich Zunker (Austin) and Katherine Zunker (Austin) two Grandchildren Brooke Bethea and Jacob Zunker. He is also survived by his two brothers Jerry Zunker (Austin), and Jimmy Zunker (Houston).
The family would also like to extend their gratitude to the third floor staff at St. David’s South for their kindness and professionalism.
Memorial Services will be at 1:00 PM, Monday, May 7, 2018 in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home.
