She was of the Lutheran Faith and is now with God.
She is preceded in death by her husband Marvin Erickson, her parents Raymond Pounds Spradling and Thelma Cleo Waggoner; and her sister Jerilyn Chapman, brothers Raymond Spradling, Jr., and Chuck Spradling.
She is survived by her sister, Fay Fletcher. Son, Danny Erickson (wife Kathy) of Austin, Texas, grandson Brian (wife Jennifer) and great-grandchildren of Leander, Texas, and granddaughter Christine (husband Joey) and great-grandchild of Leander, Texas. Son, Dennis Erickson, grandson Nicholas, and Bryce, granddaughter Brooke, and great-grandchild. Son, Rickey Erickson.
She was born at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin, Texas, and grew up in Manchaca, Buda, and Creedmoor, Texas. Joyce attended Creedmoor Elementary and Pleasant Hill Junior High School and graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1957. In ninth grade, Joyce worked at F.W. Woolworth's for a school credit. She loved baking, sewing, volleyball, bowling, and played on a softball team for Pleasant Hill Junior High School, and enjoyed learning tap and square dancing.
After graduating high school, she married her sweetheart, Marvin Erickson, in June 1957 at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, and they were married for a wonderful 45 years. While raising her family, she also worked at Bealls and Yarings clothing stores, developing her skills to become a department manager.
Memorable moments - Joyce loved the family camping trips at Inks Lake State Park, Bastrop State Park, and taking long Sunday drives out of Austin. She loved watching her children play sports growing up and was involved with her children participating in Cub Scouts and family church gatherings. Taking a vacation to San Antonio to see Roy Rogers, Dale Evans, and Trigger the horse. Also, vacations, family campouts, and weekends watching her kids play sports. She would take her kids to visit dad at the downtown Austin Central Fire Station when he was on duty and let us play on the historic Southern Pacific steam locomotive stored there.
Once Joyce and Marvin retired, they enjoyed traveling and camping in their trailer and spending time with their precious grandkids. She enjoyed her collection of knick-knacks, especially her Angel figurines and religious books.
In loving Memory, to such a great Mom and Grandma, you will be missed by all.
