Mrs. George L. Dacy, nee Laverne Duzan, passed away on Monday, June 6, 2005. Born in Belton, Texas on November 15, 1927, she graduated from Temple High School in 1945 and then moved to Austin for Business College. Following graduation, she found a job at Dacys Shoe Store on Congress Avenue which proved to be the perfect fit. Rarely does one find the love of ones life as a fringe benefit of employment, yet Laverne and George L. Dacy were married July 8, 1949 in Austin and together, they raised three sons and built a treasury of memories. Laverne Dacy was an exemplary wife, a devoted mother, and a loving grandmother, serving her family and her community as a Cub Scout den mother, co-president of Wooldridge Elementary School PTA, and volunteer at St. Davids Church Next To New Shop. For nearly 56 years, the marriage shared by Laverne and George Dacy was a loving, loyal and supportive partnership, whether working side by side at Dacys Shoe Store, raising their sons or absorbed in the joy of grandparenting that became their fulltime retirement occupation in 1981. Laverne is predeceased by her parents, Alton and Beulah Duzan of Temple, Texas and by her brother, Edwin. Left to love, remember and honor her in this life are her husband, George L. Dacy of Austin; son Joe Dacy II and wife Jennifer of Waxahachie; son Robert L. Dacy and wife Grace of Austin; son David W. Dacy and wife Nancy of Austin; sister Doris Wells of Temple and nieces Karen Hench and Linda Vitek. She is also survived by all nine of her grandchildren: George and his wife, Jennifer, Kelly, Robert Jr., Megan, Catherine, Cricker, Dylan, Alexis, and Colin Dacy. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 8, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. A service celebrating the gift of Lavernes life will be Thursday, June 9, 11:00 a.m. at St. Davids Episcopal Church with interment following at Austin Memorial Park. Laverne Duzan Dacy was a gift of grace to her husband, to her family, and to her community. We will all miss her even as we know that Heaven has received another Angel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Davids Episcopal Church Endowment Fund. Memorials and guestbook online at wcfish.com
