Lawrence was born on October 9, 1922 in Garden City, Kansas to Charlie Reid and Maggie McCaslin Reid. He graduated high school in Carthage, Missouri where he met and married Billie Marquerite Rucker on January 18, 1942. They were married for 68 years.
Lawrence joined the Marines in October, 1942 to serve during WWII. He served with the United State Marine Corps in the South Pacific for 32 consecutive months. He was proud to serve his country. The Marine’s code is honor, courage and commitment and Lawrence lived these values throughout his life. He proudly wore his WWII veterans cap everywhere he went.
After his service for our country, he returned to family life with his sweetheart Billie. They lived in Kansas until 1954 and then, moved with their two children, Pamela Jean and Larry Allan, to Austin, TX. Lawrence and Billie’s youngest daughter, Patricia was born in Austin.
Lawrence worked in Austin, for Texas Quarries as a draftsman and later for Featherlite Corporation as the chief draftsman. He retired from Featherlite in 1987 at the age of 65. Because of his love of work and excellence with stone, he continued drafting part time for Texas Cut Stone until he was 80.
Lawrence loved working with his hands. During his life, he built several houses. The final house was a beautiful stone house that was built on Lake Travis as a place for family and friends to gather on the weekend and holidays. After retirement, Lawrence added to the house and it became their retirement home.
Lawrence loved hunting and fishing. He was a real sportsman and generally loved being outdoors! He loved working on projects and fixing things around the house. Lawrence also gave back to the community by volunteering for the Trails End fire department in an administrative position and picking up donations from HEB for the Jonestown Senior Citizen Center.
After his wife Billie passed away in August of 2009. Lawrence moved in with his daughter Patricia in Cedar Creek, Texas. He continued to stay active by working on the property clearing the cactus and the yellow flowery weeds. He joined the Lost Pines Leathernecks and enjoyed attending the Marine Corp Leagues meetings and activities.
Lawrence is survived by his three children Pamela Adger, Larry Reid and wife Teresa White, and Patricia Reid and her husband Joe McKinney.
