Leo Joseph Kodosky, 98, of Buda, Texas, died on Wednesday, March 11, 2015. He was born in Lilly, Pennsylvania on November 15, 1916. He had nine sisters and four brothers all of whom predeceased him except for one sister, Edna Pashke, of Erie, Pennsylvania.
Leo grew up in Lilly, graduated as valedictorian of his high school, and then moved to New York to find work to help his family. He served in the US Army during World War II and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. Upon returning to the US, he met Constance LaPlante and they married in July 1946 and first lived in Brooklyn, NY and then moved to Lynbrook, LI, NY. Together they raised four children. Leo worked at the post office facility at JFK airport but when he retired at age 60, he moved to Texas where three of his grown children and his first two grandchildren were living. He and Connie always wanted to be close to their family. In addition to learning to square dance, playing pinochle and canasta with friends, and traveling throughout the US and Europe, they always had time for family holiday gatherings, birthday parties, recitals, sporting events, performances, graduations and babysitting whenever needed. When Connie, his wife of 64 years, died, Leo helped with his great-grandchildren and they gave him the will to continue living.
Leo is survived by his children: Jeffrey and Gail Kodosky, Cathy and Rodney Nairn, Raymond Kodosky, Warren and Lisa Kodosky, all of Austin, Texas; his grandchildren: Laura Walterman, Karen and Corey Tips, Amy and Chad Montgomery, Andrea and Mike Lambert, Jaclyn Kodosky, Leslie and Tommy Erwin, Bryan Kodosky and Robin Kodosky; his great-grandchildren: Kinsey and Tanner Walterman, Caden, Sonja, Emily and Hazel Tips, Hallie, Harper and Landon Montgomery, and Carter and Reese Erwin. Leo's devotion to his family and his kind and gentle nature will be sorely missed by all.
Leo's family wishes to thank RedBud HomeCare for making it possible for Leo to stay in his home. We are especially grateful to Sylvia, Katelynn and Lathersia. We also have a great debt of gratitude to Hospice Austin, most notably Lisa Young and the aptly-named Angel Ramsey.
A private family memorial service is planned. Those wishing to do so, may make commemorative donations in Leo's honor to Hospice Austin.
