

Leta Fay Hays Kloss died Friday, May 29, 2009 in Austin, Texas at the age of 92. She was born February 3, 1917 in Jarrell, Texas to James Sheldon Hays and Sallie Elizabeth McMakin Hays, Williamson County pioneers. Leta was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Henry Kloss, U.S. Navy (Retired), and her five brothers and sisters, Mack Hays of Dallas, Marie Hays Spence of Temple, Marguerite Hays Lester of Georgetown, Ray Hays of Jourdanton, and Roderick Hays of La Vernia. She is survived by three children, William Henry (Hal) Kloss, M.D. of New Braunfels, Sally Elizabeth Kloss Dennison of Austin, Rita Kloss Hall of Austin; five grandchildren, Andrea Beth Christina Dennison, Adam Reagan Dennison, Jane Frances Kloss, Thomas Matthew Kloss, Robert Charles Kloss; and many nieces and nephews. As a child, Leta lived in Jarrell, Prairie Dell, and Christine, moving to Austin in 1934 to attend The University of Texas at Austin where she earned a degree in zoology and chemistry in 1938. She began working as a medical technician in 1938 for J. Warren Jackson, M.D. of Austin. In 1941, Leta became a Navy bride and continued working until 1946 while Henry served on the battleship U.S.S. Massachusetts. While in the Navy, they were stationed in Norfolk, Va., Boston, Mass., Key West, Fla., Nice, France, and Great Lakes Naval Training Center in North Chicago, Ill. After Henry retired from the Navy in 1960, they returned to Austin. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, 2009 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 1, 2009 at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel with interment to follow at Memorial Hill Cemetery in Pflugerville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Austin.
