Liam Douglas Humphries passed away on Thursday, October 15th, 2015, in Austin, Texas, nine days before his 10th birthday. Liam’s passing was a result of Stage IV High Grade Glioblastoma; a deadly form of brain cancer that is extremely rare in young children. Liam was always valiant and courageous especially in the past 7 months both for himself and for those who knew and loved him. We are eternally grateful for the time we were given,
Liam’s fight against cancer was an inspiration to all who met him.
Quick to learn and able to apply intense focus on learning and understanding new things; he had a constant passion for everything ahead on the horizon. Liam’s favorite subjects at school were history and bible studies, from which he formed a deep faith. His inquisitiveness and creative imagination brought great joy to him and to those around him. Like most children of his age he loved cartoons, superheroes, Disney, children’s books and playing. He particularly loved music, swimming, video games and electronic gadgets. He loved playing golf and tennis with his sister, and little league baseball with friends and classmates. He proudly had the opportunity to meet the San Diego Padres in May of 2015.
Although Austin, TX, was Liam’s home for only a short time, Liam always had a great love for Texas, for his roots and for his family that still resides in Texas. Liam’s family will now all be together. Born in San Jose, CA, Liam spent his life living in Ramona, CA, a small town in San Diego County surrounded by the love of his parents Martyn and Elizabeth Humphries and grandparents, L.D. and Janice Romine. He was deeply spiritual, kind, loving and caring and will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.
Liam is survived by his loving parents, Martyn G. Humphries and Elizabeth Romine-Humphries; his maternal grandparents L.D. Romine Jr., and Janice Romine of San Diego, CA.; his paternal grandmother Pauline Humphries of the United Kingdom; sister Grace I. Humphries, and brothers Andrew M. Humphries and his wife Nisha Doshi, and Jonathan M. Humphries of the United Kingdom; his maternal uncle L.D. Romine III and cousins Sean and Austin Romine of San Diego, CA and maternal Great Uncle and Aunt James and Judy Akridge of Austin, TX. Liam also says goodbye to many other loving family members in Texas, Oklahoma and the United Kingdom as well as dear friends in Ramona, CA.
Liam was provided loving and compassionate care from Dell Children’s Medical Center in conjunction with the Palliative Care Team at Dell Children’s in the final weeks of his short life. His wish to spend his final few days at home with his family was granted because of the support and teamwork by both Dell Children’s, Palliative Care and Hospice Austin. He was cared for lovingly by his mother and father in the final days of his life because of their efforts. The Humphries family requests as an alternative to flowers that contributions be made to establish a palliative care room at Dell Children’s Medical Center in Liam’s name. Please send your contribution to: Dell Children’s Foundation, 4900 Mueller Blvd., Austin, Texas 78723, (512) 324-0108, www.supportdellchildrens.org.
