Lila Allyne (Mullins) Ware was born May 6th, 1943, in Stamford, Texas; the oldest child of Johnie E and Allyne Mullins. The small family moved to Austin when Lila was very young, and she lived there for the rest of her life. Lila graduated from McCallum High School in 1961. She then finished a business school course learning shorthand, typing and other skills that would serve her well throughout her professional life. Lila began her career with the State of Texas at Texas Employment Commission (later to become Texas Workforce Commission) where she worked for over 30 years. She finished her time as a State employee at Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission.
Lila married Bobby Joe Ware August 14, 1965, and they shared a life together until his death in September 2004. They had one son, Galen Joe, who they both adored. Galen provided them both with unwavering care through their final years and illnesses.
Lila is survived by her son Galen Joe, who will forever miss her and his dad. She also leaves behind her brother, Johnie Mullins Jr (Yuwanita) and her sisters, Melanie Edwards and Darlyne Anderson (Dirk). Surviving nieces and nephews are Jason Mullins, Nathaniel Dickerman (Rachael), Shelby and Eryn Edwards, Zachary (Samantha) and Connor (Marie) Anderson and great-nieces Jordyn Dickerman and Lexi Gauna. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob and her parents, Johnie Sr and Allyne.
Lila loved watching game shows and soap operas; sometimes recording them on her VCR while she worked so she could watch them later that evening. She and her mom would have done well competing on Wheel of Fortune as a Mother/Daughter team. She greatly enjoyed reading and rarely was without a book either in her hand or in her purse (lovingly called her “suitcase” by close family). She was often found in the “WareHouse Library” (i.e. bedroom closet) perusing her collection and choosing the next book she would enjoy. She left behind numerous shelves, bags and stacks of books for the family to sort through, some read, some not. She also liked puzzle computer games, competing with her son for the high score. She collected salt and pepper shakers from around the country, many of which were brought home to her by Bob when he returned from a work trip.
Lila always knew whose birthday it was and enjoyed greeting them either by phone or on Facebook to help them celebrate the day. These phone calls and messages will be greatly missed. Luckily some still have the saved voicemails and messages from her to enjoy every year on their special day.
A time of casual visitation and remembrance will be on December 5th 2025 from 1:00 – 2:30pm at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home, 9700 Anderson Mill Road, Austin, TX 78750
