Lillie graduated from The Original L. C. Anderson High School at an early age. She went on to graduate from Huston-Tillotson College where she majored in English and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree. She enjoyed a career in education but eventually focused her energy on nurturing her family full time.
Lillie united in holy matrimony with the love of her life, Nathaniel Hawthorne Kindred, Sr., on August 1, 1947. To their union, 11 children were born—four boys and seven girls. The two remained united for 29 years until his transition.
Among many hobbies, Lillie delighted in collecting crosses, elephants, quilting, sewing, cooking, and loved baking from scratch. Her spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nathaniel Kindred, Sr., and daughter, Jacqueline Ann Kindred. Those left to cherish her precious memories include: her six daughters, Myrna Scott (Leonard), Evelyn Hargrove (Floyd, Sr.), Marilyn McKinley, Delores Stinson (Joseph), Patricia Edwards (Eugene), and Margaret Thomas (Clarence, Jr.); four sons, Nathaniel Kindred, Jr. (Linda), Michael Kindred (Avonne), Richard Kindred, Sr. (Yolanda), and Christopher Kindred (Pamela); 37 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Viola Wilson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Three sets of five generations will continue her legacy of love.
