Lillie Pearl Fick, age 85, passed away on Monday, October 29, 2018, in Austin, Texas, her home for many years. Preceded in death by her husband, Paul M. Fick, Jr. and three of her sons (Bobby, Melvin and Steven Fick), Lillie is survived by her daughter, Karen Carter, her son, Ted Fick, five siblings, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5 PM – 7PM, Monday, November 5. Service: 2 PM, Tuesday, November 6 at Cook-Walden Chapel.
Lillie, known as Pearl to her family and friends, was an employee of the state of Texas for many years, and was a working mother long before it was common to be. She might have been dismayed (and possibly secretly amused at) some of the antics her children got up to while she was at work.
A woman of great strength and fortitude, Lillie was not shy about speaking her mind or fighting for her principles and her often formidable persistence helped her meet many challenges in her life successfully. She was a force to be reckoned with, even over a checker board. She loved to travel, and often could be found with at least one book close at hand. Her chocolate meringue pies, pecan crisp cookies, and potato salad were family favorites at gatherings.
Lillie did much to teach her children to be as strong, independent, resilient and responsible as she was, simply by setting consistent examples of those traits. She is unforgettable, she is loved, and she will be deeply missed.
