Mindful of the boundless love she brought into the many lives she touched, the family and friends of Linda Wright Jones celebrate her life and embrace her next journey. Weakened – but not defeated – by ten-years of chronic respiratory disease, Linda’s spirit persevered this world on Friday, December 17, 2010, surrounded by the family and friends she loved so much.
Linda was born on June 30, 1943 to Ray H. Wright and Mary Elizabeth Wright in Dallas, Texas. She attended the University of Texas at Austin where she received her bachelor’s degree in 1965. It was in college in Austin that she met Jack Jones, whom she married in 1967. The two gave birth to a son (Egan) in 1972 and a daughter (Tanis) in 1977. In cooperation with her husband, Linda was the ‘founding mother’ of the Whole Earth Provision Company, a locally-owned and operated business in Texas which celebrated its 40th anniversary only four days before her passing. Linda was the guiding spirit behind Whole Earth’s belief in the dignity and due respect for all people. Linda’s compassion, kindness and generosity were coupled with a fierce intelligence, determination and loyalty to her family, friends, and employees and the company she worked tirelessly to serve.
Linda’s pride and joy was her family, which includes daughter Tanis Jones Herndon and her husband Dr. Benjamin David Herndon of Atlanta, Georgia; son Egan Ray Jones and wife Christina Jones of Austin, Texas; brother-in-law Joe Ray Jones, wife Mary Jones and their children John Holland and Ginna Jones; brother Ray Wright and wife Janie Wright of Georgetown, Texas and niece Laurie Breedlove and her husband Terry Breedlove of Dallas, Texas, and their daughter Rhett Breedlove, who always brought a special twinkle to Linda’s eyes.
Linda’s family asks that those wishing to commemorate Linda’s life consider making a donation to Capitol Area Food Bank in her name.
