The Lord welcomed home his good and faithful servant, Liselotte Drescher (nee Gangl) of Austin, Texas on February 25, 2026, at the age of 95 years. Liselotte was the oldest of two children and the only girl born to Franz Gangl and Ottilia (nee Singer) on December 11, 1930, in the town of Füssen in Bavaria, Germany.
A woman of strong Christian faith, Liselotte was baptized on December 16, 1930, in Füssen. She became a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Austin, Texas in 1958 and was still attending the weekly Sunday morning 8:00 am worship service until late 2025 when her health prevented her from attending. She served for many years in the Dorcus Society and on the funeral preparation committee making sandwiches, and baking cakes and cookies.
Liselotte grew up surrounded by the German and Austrian Alps and enjoyed her early childhood going on long mountain treks with her father. Liselotte started sewing at the age of five as a challenge from her father to make him a traditional Bavarian Men’s embroidered waistcoat which she successfully completed. When asked what smell she remembered from her childhood she would say the sweet smell of cookies her mother baked. Liselotte enjoyed sewing and turned her passion into her occupation; at nineteen, she passed the German state certification exam to become a Licensed Schneiderin (Seamstress). Liselotte worked in a dress and tailor shop in Füssen when she met an American soldier at a Mardi Gras party where they danced and talked all night. That evening marked the beginning of years of dancing waltzes, two-steps, and their favorite Polka as the American soldier she met that night was Paul Albert Drescher, who became her best friend and husband for over 69 years until Paul passed away at the age of 93 in December 2021.
Liselotte and Paul were married on April 1, 1952, at Christus Evangelische Kirche (Lutheran Church) in Füssen, Bavaria, Germany. Within months after the wedding, Liselotte left her family, childhood friends and homeland of Germany to move with Paul to his next military assignment at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. While stationed at Fort Jackson, Liselotte and Paul welcomed their first child, a son, Tommy James Drescher, in 1953. After Paul was discharged from the US Army in 1954 the family moved to Texas and settled in Austin where they welcomed their second child, a son Eddie Roger Drescher, in 1955, and their third child, a son, Glenn Paul Drescher in 1960. Liselotte became a Naturalized citizen of the United States of America on February 1, 1957.
Liselotte was a woman of many talents. She was an accomplished seamstress, working in a privately owned drapery shop in Austin, where she made the original drapes that hung in the oval office of the LBJ Library and she also made the drapes for the Texas Governor’s office in the Texas state capital. Many considered her the best custom drapery maker in Austin. She was an excellent cook, and her Gingersnap cookies have been cherished by family and extended family for many years. She made dewberry jelly from handpicked dewberries from her mother- in-law’s yard in LaGrange, Texas. She loved to spend Sunday afternoons with her family on Lake Travis where she would water ski and drive the ski boat while Paul and her boys would ski. She loved going on family vacations to Colorado, the Eastern USA, Florida and Alaska, always camping out. She knew how to build a campfire, and she mastered cooking on a two-burner Coleman camping stove. She was a substitute Sunday School teacher and Cub Scout Den Mother. She sewed beautiful dresses for her granddaughters, created custom drapes for her sons’ homes, made baby blankets for her great-grandson and enjoyed reading books to her grandchildren. She loved dancing with Paul and spent many Saturday evenings dancing with friends in and around Austin. She would often talk joyfully about sharing her birthday with Paul’s niece Mae Ann Rausl (nee Drescher) and celebrating it with cake and dancing.
Liselotte was preceded in death by her parents Franz and Ottilia Gangl, and her husband Paul Albert Drescher. She is survived by her brother Otto (Toni) Gangl of Füssen Germany; her sons, Tommy (Nita), Eddie (Patti), and Glenn (Kathy); her grandchildren: Hailey (Blake), Breckyn (Senem), Hayden, Clay, and Amy; her great-grandson, Bryce Glover; and numerous well-loved nieces and nephews. Liselotte was known to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as Omi and to her extended family in LaGrange, Houston, and Füssen as Aunt Liz.
